I picked up Contempt, Ran and Nights of Cabiria from Barnes & Noble today, on DVD. And while I was there, I also grabbed Amarcord and Seven Samurai since I had yet to ever purchase them, and at 60% off, it's a steal.

finally got to see The Red Shoes dvd for the first time and it certainly was worth the wait. but I do hope that the new blu-ray eliminates that annoying pulsing of the frames. after awhile, that's all I could see. still, the film certainly was amazing. can't wait to show it to my niece who dances with the ballet here.

I never remember Criterion titles falling in price so fast (or short term sales etc)

If I just bought Ben Button along with all the other on sale criterion blus, will Amazon give me a bit of a refund on it to get it down to 14.99?

The Wrestler wasn't bad..... everyone said it had very little wrestling in it..... but I still think it had WAY too much..... It could have been a bit longer.... they didn't fully develop all of the characters.... but nonetheless it's enjoyable, and Rourke really did a great job..... although I don't know how much of it was acting

Is it worth owning? I know we agree on some movies, but Taken isn't one of them

I just couldn't pass it up at 14.99

Yep,the film was a bit short, maybe due to a small budget,BOTH Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei were robbed of their Oscars that night IMO! Still one of my faves of '08!

The Wrestler was one of the best movies last year. Cannot say the say about Benjamin Button, which was quite bad in my opinion.

My "The Wages of Fear / The Seventh Seal / Repulsion" order was also shipped today. I'm bit disappointed that they didn't ship it out earlier, because I have to wait one or two weeks to receive it.

I know what you're talking about. I've hardly ever seen any fluctuations in Criterion prices...and especially not so soon after release.

TCCBB could have dropped so low because of the Paramount connection, though. The Buena Vista DVD titles (e.g. The Royal Tenenbaums, Chasing Amy) did drop in price far below the others "back in the day".
