Risky hire (no HC experience) but great recruiter.

From what I’ve read, there is very little interest in the job after yesterday’s events.

I don't believe that at all. A lot of writers are mad that Tennessee fans upset the balance of power yesterday. You'll get paid 6 million plus and all you have to do is do your job and win 66% of your games (8-4).... No agent or coach would be willing to turn that down. Everyone said the same thing about Bama until they backed a Brink's truck up to Saban's front door....

With this current administration it will probably be another Derek Dooley or Butch Jones. Kiffin could have been something if he hadn't left for USC. He was a blocked field goal away from beating Bama in first year and was very close to beating Florida. He also demolished Georgia 45-19...

Tennessee should have just paid his 9 million buyout. He was my top pick. It would have saved the University from a bunch of mess.

So Jason Witten is under consideration for the Tennessee head coaching job?

And that happens...how?

Oregon would be playing for a national championship this year if Justin Herbert hadn't gotten hurt.

They had one small hiccup against a very underrated Arizona State team.

But they are firing on all cylinders now and basically unstoppable.

It's really a shame.

The Witten story was a rumor that noted clickbait columnist Clay Travis started on Outkick the Coverage, saying Witten had support from some prominent boosters and interest in the job. Nobody else reported that Witten was a candidate and Witten quickly denied interest in the job. Maybe there were some boosters advocating for Witten but it doesn't seem like he was ever a realistic candidate for the job.

Mike Gundy has apparently interviewed. He may just be trying for another raise from Oklahoma State. He apparently turned Florida down. He turned Tennesee down in 2012.

I don't believe Gundy turned down Florida, he was never really mentioned as a candidate and everyone believed Mullen was the guy after Frost and Kelly. It makes even less sense that he'd turn down Florida but consider Tennessee. It's a worse job now than it was in 2012 and there's a decent chance the AD is on his way out. He's got a ton of job security at Oklahoma State with a 5-year contract that rolls over every year and makes good money.

Edit: No clue if this is true, but SB Nation's Oklahoma State site says Tennessee is willing to double Gundy's current deal and pay $8.4 million per year, which would make Gundy the third highest-paid coach in college football.

Especially after the lynch mob assault of Schiano on Sunday.

Tennessee fans would love Gundy. He's 60 games over .500 unlike Schiano who was 1 game over .500. Just pair Gundy up with a rockstar DC and let's go.

Not really defending Schiano but comparing his tenure at Rutgers to Gundy's at Oklahoma State is apples to oranges. Gundy took over a team that averaged 8 wins a year in the 3 years prior to him becoming head coach and the school had a history of success. Schiano took over a 3 win team that was a perennial doormat in the Big East and had only made 1 bowl in school history and made them respectable. It took some time as they were 3-20 his first 2 years and didn't have a winning record his first 4 years but they then became a respectable team that went to bowl games 6 of his last 7 years. I'm not saying Schiano would have been a better hire than Gundy, but I'd take him over other names being throw around like Dave Doeren and Jeff Brohm.
