The big what if... an 8 team playoff (The 5 power-five champions plus 3 at-large bids with the highest ranked non power 5 team) would probably look something like this.

1. Clemson vs. 8. UCF
2. Oklahoma vs. 7. Penn St.
3. Georgia vs. 6. USC
4. Alabama vs. 5. Ohio St.

8 teams makes too much sense. They have to go to it.

I’d sub Penn State out for Wisconsin.

SOS says Auburn has an easier game against Alabama @Alabama than Ole Miss does, because Ole Miss has 9 miles farther to travel for the game, and distance traveled for away games is one of said dubious statistics. Think about how dumb that is.

All smack talk aside I'm still in shock that this CU team is back in the playoffs this year. As a #1 at that. At the end of last year knowing who was leaving and who the QB was going to be I didn't think there was a chance in hell of going this year. Kind of shows how down the country is this year. I don't think they will win it but if they do I'll be very happy about. Should be a fun playoff to watch. Enjoy it!

Tried to say a narrow win wouldn't be enough to make the 4 spot. Ohio St. really needed a real statement game to overcome their 2 blowout losses and that wasn't it. I can see why their fans would be pissed though. The system still sucks.

Both final polls also had Alabama at 4, Ohio St. 5. by narrow margins.

Personally I think Alabama is a better team than Ohio State based on the games I've watched.

Let's not forget, this is the same Buckeye team that got waxed by Iowa just a few weeks ago.

I don't really care about who's a conference champion if one team has two losses and the other team looks better based on the eye test.

As we saw last year with Penn State, the committee holds a lot of value on bad losses.

So Alabama can play a weak schedule but still lose a game, and finish third in their division but somehow be one of the four best teams in the country?

They finished 2nd in their division.

And the team that beat them has now lost 3 games.

Funny enough, Auburn is 2-2 against playoff teams this year.

Mercer is 0-1 could have been 0-2 if Auburn had won the SEC.

Great point, I was echoing similar sentiment during the games yesterday as I went back & forth with different people. Can never understate how hyped this third act will be over the next month as well.

I like Clemson over Bama then Clemson over Oklahoma for the title.

I have a feeling Oklahoma will wind up winning this thing. They've been outstanding since their narrow loss to Iowa St. in early October. OK has blown out their last 6 opponents. I think Mayfield is the best player in college football too.

The field of 4 is very close talent-wise though. Could be any team. The semi-final point spreads both being within 2 points indicate a crap shoot.

How many big wins does Georgia have this year?

Auburn yesterday...the same team that kicked their ass a few weeks ago.

Barely squeaked by Notre Dame...a good but not great team.

And that's about it.

A lot of teams build their resumes off of wins against highly ranked opponents who are only highly ranked based on reputation.

That's how it works in college football.

Looks like UCF will land Sumlin. Love this hire. Sumlin is a great hire for a non power-5 program and UCF will be returning nearly every key player in 2018 following a 12-0 season. Our recruiting class for next season is also very good. Should be a stacked squad. Funny how UCF has become a more desirable job than Tennessee.

http://www.espn.com/college-football...d-coaching-job

Quote:
UCF is targeting former Texas A&M and Houston coach Kevin Sumlin to be its next coach, according to sources with knowledge of the search.

The school is looking to replace Scott Frost, who Saturday accepted the coaching job at Nebraska, his alma mater. Frost guided UCF to an 11-0 record and an American Athletic Conference championship this season, and the Knights are the only remaining unbeaten team in the FBS.

CBS Tampa first reported UCF's interest in Sumlin and that the two sides were already negotiating a deal. A source told ESPN that contact with Sumlin will be "imminent," if it hasn't happened already.
