This is why I've never like college football as much as the NFL. They might as well play games and then let judges hold up score cards like figure skating in the Olympics. Too bad they just can't turn the conferences into divisions and just let teams play their way into position. Win and you're in. Decide it on the field and not in some room late at night.

I still prefer college football to the NFL. That being said I hear ya on the politics within the college game. It's ridiculous that is took until the late 90's to get a de-facto national title game and until just a few years ago to get a 4 team playoff. Unfortunately it'll probably take many more years to get to the ideal system - an 8 team playoff.

the 4-team model is in place until at least 2020. that's when the contract ends. which i find weird as hell that they have a contract for a playoff system.

College football is one of the greatest sports in the world, but they really need to understand that they could have a better product with more playoff teams.

I'm surprised that Mark Helfrich is a name that never really popped up for the UCF job.

Thought Sumlin to Tennessee was basically a done deal after what I had been reading. That is a very nice hire for you guys.

They lost twice and have gotten the benefit of the doubt plenty of times.

Then again, so has Alabama.

ESPN should just air it for free? The contract is about guarantees around the types of games played and their dates.

I honestly don't get why the contract necessarily stops an 8 team playoff. If I'm ESPN I'd be begging the NCAA to re-negotiate the contract to add another round of playoff games. Four additional quarterfinal games would rake in some huge money for all parties.

Beyond just being a good idea from the fans point of view it would be a cash cow. An 8 team playoff takes the number of playoff games from 3 to 7. Sure, maybe a quarterfinal wouldn't be as big a draw as semifinals and finals but it would still draw extremely well.

No, it won’t be free

But it shouldn’t determine the number of playoff teams. And why just one network (the worst one even). And better dates would be nice.

Bowl games with opening point spreads. I feel reasonably good about UCF. Often when these teams come up short in their final game for a shot at a national title they put in a half assed performance in the lesser bowl. I could see Auburn laying an egg in the Peach Bowl. UCF has been in one BCS game before and they won it easily.

Rose Bowl: Oklahoma (-1) vs. Georgia

Other Major Bowls:
Cotton Bowl: Ohio St. (-6.5) vs. USC
Peach Bowl: Auburn (-9.5) vs. UCF
Orange Bowl: Wisconsin (-6.5) vs. Miami
Fiesta Bowl: Penn St. (-3) vs. Washington

i know that. but that doesn't mean it's right. things like this are why we needed an 8-team playoff from the very beginning.

Let's not forget, this is the same Buckeye team that got waxed by Iowa just a few weeks ago.

I don't really care about who's a conference champion if one team has two losses and the other team looks better based on the eye test.

The fact that they beat Oregon in the 2010 Rose Bowl and the 2015 national championship game does not affect my objectivity whatsoever.

I went to school at Ohio State and have bled scarlet-and-gray my entire life, and even I could tell you they didn't deserve to make it this year. That loss to Iowa was enough to tell the committee that they don't belong there, period. Plus, they'd get killed by Clemson all over again, so the committee showed mercy as far as I'm concerned. The bowl game vs. USC should be fun, though.

I'm glad they'll have a new QB next year. Hopefully, he'll be able to pass the ball accurately in addition to run with it.

And finally, I'd like to take this moment to remind you that the Ducks are 0-9 against Ohio State in their history.
