It's funny how when Lucas "rhymes" his movies he's some sort of genius, while if the new regime does it, it's "lazy".
Ha, I expected that. It it was made fun off and ridiculed a lot before Abrams. Lucas did it first for what it's worth (with totally different designs that there were complains that the prequels didn't look like Star Wars, Lucas just can't win!), he talked about it before shooting of Episode I began so he was not giving excuses to complaints, it was planned. I'm sure the same can be said about what is Abrams doing now. But it was the fan started complaining first after Lucas did it, they're the ones who change their mind that it's cool to do it now.

To quote Obi-Wan, "Who was the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him."

Eh, Lucas flip-flopped about so much stuff pertaining to Star Wars over the years that I can't begrudge the fickle nature of the fans, or indeed for them not knowing which way was up. I fully admit to loving/hating the prequels (well, mostly hating Attack of the Clones and liking/loving the other two) depending on which way the wind is blowing, they're a maddening set of films to try and quantify because they're so uneven.

As for who's more foolish, if JJ's tried to do his own version of the the Death Star assault with the attack on Starkiller Base then he's in good company, as Lucas has already done it twice.

A T-shirt with the characters on it should suffice for most geeks.

I bought a Kylo Ren shirt for the showing I'm attending. I'll never understand getting fully decked out in a costume for a premiere. Like I know it's to show how huge of a fan you are, but like the poster above me said: Keep it for the conventions

Only time I have ever worn a costume for a movie was when I worse the "ghostface" mask when I saw Scream 3. Ah, the innocence of pre-9/11 America, when you could walk into a movie theater with the mask of a serial killer and not get tackled to the ground by security personel before making it to the ticket counter...

That's so stupid. Let's punish every cosplayer for one *******'s actions. Next thing you know, costumes will not be allowed at conventions.

i like it... but for other reasons

some theater seats are pretty crowded together, wouldn't want to sit next to some big bulky costume

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a costume to a movie or any event.

That leaves the possibility of catching you alive wearing a costume.

I don't really see the point of wearing costumes to a cinema. As it's been said, that's best left for conventions, parties, and costume contests. As for them not allowing costumes at conventions, that won't happen. It's apples and oranges. Every convention that I've been to, there's security before you enter the main area. Searches, wands, and various security measures are in place. At the cinema, they won't bother with any of that (on a positive note, it means you can sneak in snacks. ).

As it is, it will be noisy during the first several showings. That's to be expected, and it's fine. I can understand how people would be excited. However, we don't need idiots firing their toy blasters, lighting up their sabers and having mock battles during action scenes. It's not all about you; it's about enjoying the movie on the screen. Sadly, as time has passed, more and more it's all "me, me, me" at any kind of social gathering or event. People snap photos of themselves at the cinema during the movie, text, and all that on their phones, fans are very disruptive with huge signs that block others' views and they won't sit down at various events, and so on.

It's not about you. Just enjoy the movie. Laugh, clap, even cheer if the moment is amazing. Just don't ruin anyone else's fun time.

It'll feel like the FAO Schwarz toy store at the cinemas.

Agreed with everything you pointed out. Well said.

Ya, I'm fine with an excited audience having a good time on opening weekend by cheering and what not, but I don't want to see grown men having light saber fights in the lobby and waving their lightsabers in the air during the film.

I'll be wearing some Star Wars t-shirts to be festive though. These are the two shirts I'll be wearing if end up seeing it more than once:
