Is it 7:00 yet? I'm hungry, I decided to starve myself today (no breakfast\lunch) in anticipation of taking my fiancee out for dinner tonight. She really wants to try a new (to us) Chinese buffet but we keep putting it off for one reason or another, we've just been so busy lately.

What the hell kind of debt have you accumulated in your 20's that you feel you need to do this?

I could put myself in some serious debt if you put me in front of a computer with a limitless credit card for an hour or two.

Wanting to buy more used games from GameStop. They still have that 2 for $20 sale until Saturday.
Also, I need to renew my Pro membership since it will expire sometime this month. Gotta keep getting that an additional 10% off. |

I know we can change our future but it seems a struggle.
It looks like I might be an uncle so it could get crowed here and so trying to figure out how to get my own place is hard since I am having a hard time with jobs. Which is kinda both depressing and wonderful at the same time. It is somewhat depressing that Princess has turned 18 and for all her life it seems I've been pathetic and it's even more pathetic to miss my time with her and her in general. The only good thing is seeming my friends more which has improved my mood and I know they will be there for me when I am struggling like my family. I suppose in a way they are also family. |

If someone owes many thousands of dollars to creditors I can see how filing for bankruptcy might be somewhat of a relief, both financially and psychologically, but if you just screwed up with a handful of credit cards (like I did), and don't owe a small fortune, time is your best option. I ruined my credit from years of money mismanagement and having too many cards but now I get multiple offers every week. All it takes is paying the bills on time and time will do the rest.

Another angle on bankruptcy is that the laws have changed drastically over the past decade. Unless they changed again, you really want to be prudent with just using bankruptcy willy-nilly, because receiving a discharge isn't as automatic as it used to be.
Finally, and this might be old sentimentality speaking, but there's something to be said for finding a way to pay your debts as originally agreed upon. If not for perceived moral and ethical reasons, then for the pragmatic conditioning of proper money management skills and personal independence: The first time you walk away from your responsibilities makes the second time that much easier. Just food for thought. |
