Report: 70% of U.S. Respondents Say There’s Too Much Streaming Video, article here. Don't these users know most of these services have queues so you can make your selections ahead of time. Reminds me of folks standing in line at fast food restaurants and when it comes time for them to order they stand there without a clue as to what to order.

Always had my list when I used to rent LaserDisc, βetamax tapes, VHS tapes and DVD’s at the B&M rentals. In the early days my list were printed on 2- ½" thermal paper.

Done and done. I've been using Apple products for more than 10 years. I don't own an iPad, though. I do have a Mac Mini, Macbook Pro, and an Apple TV 4k.

I also have a buddy that works for Apple, so that discount comes in handy sometimes.

I've only ever had two iPhones in my life. I had an iPhone 5 that lasted 5 years before I upgraded to an iPhone 8. Here's hoping it lasts another 5 years.

Here's this:

https://www.macrumors.com/2019/11/04...aming-quality/

Apple TV+ Offers Highest Quality 4K Streaming, Averaging Up to 29Mbps

Quote:
Apple TV+ has the highest 4K streaming quality offered by a streaming service that supports 4K, according to testing conducted by FlatpanelsHD founder Rasmus Larsen.

Larsen says that the *Apple TV*+ offers higher quality 4K streaming than most iTunes movies, based on averages of the variable bitrate employed by the service.

"See" had the highest bitrate of an *Apple TV*+ show tested, averaging a 29Mb/s video bitrate and a 41Mb/s peak.

"The Elephant Queen" averaged right around 26Mb/s for video bitrate, and other content, such as "Snoopy in Space" also performed well.

According to Larsen, the *Apple TV*+ offers 1.5 to 2x the video bitrate of a typical HD Blu-ray disc and around half of a typical UHD Blu-ray disc.

Comparatively, Netflix's 4K bitrate appears to max out at right around 16Mb/s, though Netflix requires a 25Mb/s connection to stream 4K content.

Of course. I'm not disputing that. It would make no sense for them to be these outrageously high rates if most of the population does not have high speed internet to take advantage of it. Hell, most don't even have 4K or Atmos but Apple decided to make it available on all of their Apple TV+ material. Props to that at least.

This will hopefully light a fire under the other services' ass and make them up their game across the board. Disney+ is in a week, so we will see how that goes.

I can't remember the last time I posted here. But I've done some lurking.

Collecting movies may be my favorite thing ever. I'm a bit concerned about the future changes and the ability to own movies in the future. When you read about the rights to content being traded and manipulated and realize it's all very much linked to the amount of money involved and the individual has little control or input. Well,... I can't predict the future at all and there's no use to worry about it.

I don't see any need to chose between Streaming and Physical Media. I enjoy them both and will continue to buy them both.

I have been buying more streaming content lately. Of course some things are only available on one or the other. I have hosted movie nights for others with Crawl and 47 Meters Down Uncaged streaming from iTunes in 4K HDR.

My view of Physical media is - Get it while you can.

-Brian

382 Kbps. The same as many DVD’s while some DVD’s had 448 Kbps and some demo DVD’s had 640 Kbps.

Oh no, not again!!! Below is 2 graphics showing the data received for a Netflix HD stream. Netflix diagnostic showed the video data rate as 7.5 Mbps. The peak data rate is ≈ 24 Mbps. Video data via the internet does not come in a continuos stream like disc do. Look at the graphs, there are large chunks of time when no data is receive and is more pronounced in the second graph.

[Show spoiler]

Now we're arguing minutiae. How are the above graphs going to make me enjoy my streaming options any less?

I would say the actual avg. video data rate is 24.59 Mbps. The 29 Mbps most likely contains the video, FEC, Reed-Solomon and other overhead data.
