Jokes in bad taste are neither welcome, ironic, or relevant. War is real in all too many places in our sad world and real people die in them of all ages. Nothing funny about that in any context.

All you have done is taken yet another opportunity to bash young people without cause; you blame them for damn near everything when what you really ought to ponder is how much they have to blame our generations for.

I'm not trying to censor you lest you think that I am. I fully support your right to say stupid shit. Also, it would be more than a full time job editing the dumb from all of your prolific postings.

Thanks, really nice of you.

Deleted. By the way you made a joke (just last month) about a sensitive subject and self censored yourself later. I’m doing the same now in a meta move.

Would appreciate you deleting your post that quoted me.

I’m here just for the discussion. I don’t care about the rank of the thread. I like the topic, I like the back and forth.

However, anybody who couldn’t care less about picture quality (as long as it doesn’t bother them) should not even be in this discussion. Here we try to state facts, not whether or not a presentation affects the happiness of watching a particular title or otherwise. Because if so, I can just watch nearly all movies. BUT without proper presentations some movies are just not watched with the original intent in mind. Imagine watching Titanic on a 21” TV (yeah I ised to be in that situation... on a 21” 4:3 CRT no less!)

You don't need to be passive aggressive about it. I already qualified my statements enough. Hell, I started out in the HT hobby during the VHS and LD days.

I've said that as long as it's DVD and up that I am ok with it. I'm not going back to the VHS, LD or lesser days let alone the 21 inch CRT tube days. I'm just not gonna get hung up on the perceived battle between physical and digital media. I buy both. Cost is also a factor. That's all I was saying, dude.

There is more at stake than just A/V quality (even though that is very important).

Passive aggressive? LOL. That’s the terms snowflakes-type use!

DVD quality is unacceptable to me. Besides, quality is not only quantified by pixel count. You can have amazing HD and craptastic 4K.

So only people who prioritize various factors the 'right way' should be permitted to discuss different home video options?

Put me down as a 'no' on that.

ummm... you said "passive aggressive" didn't you?

There is nothing passive aggressive about my post. I'm stating facts that watching Titanic improperly (in my case, too small of a screen) doesn't allow me to experience the story as intended.

of course. we are currently discussing about picture quality based on bitrate report on AppleTV+ when Cheez chimed in that doesn't change how he enjoys a movie. Well, his comment is completely out of the current discussion... which is about the numbers.

IF the discussion is currently about the enjoyment of a movie, then it will be a different story. At that point, the discussion of numbers, bitrates will be the ones that's not allowed.

Context, my man, context.

I reckon the home video market would be dead without people who are fine with watching movies "improperly".

Few people have the space and budget for a dedicated home theater room with 200" projection setup, multiple speakers and sound proofing.

Chimed in? Didn't Cheez start the conversation about AppleTV+?

Is that what you mean by context, my man?

Exactly. Even the purest of the purists make compromises.

Which brings to mind that old punchline: We've already established what kind of girl you are, now we're just haggling over the price.

I came in and gave some personal observations about Appl TV+ and then posted some stats and they were, not surprisingly, crapped on. They tried shooting the messenger. Then they called me a snowflake. Kind of ironic there coming from a canadian. I thought canucks were nice people.

Sharing numbers is fine. Which brought the discussions to numbers. But when Wendell brought in his numbers you then counter by saying it doesn’t affect your enjoyment one bit. So then why brought in numbers? I am truly confused.

No, it doesn't, and neither did Apple TV+'s. I was sharing. The way Wendell posted was to squash what I posted as if they were coming directly from me. As if I posted stats to gloat, which I didn't. That's why I responded the way I did.

This depends on where the measurement is being performed.

Iirc, the video stats for AppleTV measure actual stream bitrates ala-BDInfo and not network throughput.

Alas, can't put it to the test since I believe you need to have a Mac (which I don't) in order to enable developer mode on the AppleTV before you can display playback stats.

My AppleTV 4K was activated within the promo period so I've got 1 year AppleTV+ free but to be honest, there's nothing on the service that interests me and I prefer to binge watch anyway.
