Paul Finebaum was having a nervous breakdown over this today. Finebaum specifically made the claim that no team has ever won a national championship in this matter, meaning a smaller conference or independent school which played a comparatively weak schedule.

As usual, he's wrong. Lookup the 1984 national championship team BYU. That BYU team played a much weaker schedule than this year's UCF team. BYU played zero ranked opponents and were awarded a national title. UCF won 4 games against teams currently ranked in the top-25.

UCF to celebrate perfect season with national title banner, parade

UCF athletic director Danny White said Wednesday that the program has decided to claim a national championship and will place a championship banner inside Spectrum Stadium to recognize its undefeated 2017 season.

The Knights beat Auburn 34-27 in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl to cap a 13-0 season, finishing as the only undefeated team in college football. But because UCF doesn't play in a Power 5 conference, it entered the bowl game ranked No. 12 by the College Football Playoff selection committee and was not given an opportunity to play for the national championship.

Nonetheless, the school said that it will hold a celebratory parade for the team at Disney World on Sunday.

This college money is getting insane. LSU just gave their defensive coordinator $10 million guaranteed.

Quote:
College football's highest-paid assistant coach is staying at LSU and getting even richer.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron announced Wednesday night on Twitter that defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has agreed to remain with the Tigers. Aranda is receiving a new four-year contract that will pay him $2.5 million annually, a source told ESPN. The entire $10 million deal is guaranteed. Orgeron himself makes $3.5 million per year.

Texas A&M had made several attempts to hire Aranda for new coach Jimbo Fisher's staff, and was prepared to substantially increase his salary.

Never mind that Auburn beat both teams AT HOME in the national title game this season, was 1 win from a playoff spot and he made Auburn out to be powerhouse right up until UCF beat them.
Fixed.

Playing on the road and coming out with a win in CFB is tougher than most other sports.

Yeah, that was announced days ago. With everyone just collectively took a knee to trigger him into retreating to his safe space the way Pence did at a game last year. Don't worry, he'll probably be asleep by halftime. His attention span is extremely short.

What a slimy, gutless move having Trump come out surrounded by men in uniform. Guess it was the only way they could have him show up and not get booed by everyone. Even with the military backup is was a mostly negative reaction.

Alabama’s inability to recruit good quarterbacks is just baffling.

Jalen Hurtz can’t throw the ball by high school standards and he’s starting for the most dominant college football program of the last 20 years.

How long has it been since Bama had a great quarterback?

...and don’t say AJ Mcarron.

The last Alabama QB's who became at least above average NFL QB's were Ken Stabler and Joe Namath, both in the 1960's. Seriously, it's been more than half a century.

Like Chad said since Stabler and Namath. Bama's never really been a QB school. They believe in winning with defense and running the ball. It's worked for the most part.

How is that possible?

They have the number one recruiting class in the country almost every year and they can’t find/develop quarterbacks that don’t suck?

...i just don’t get it.

Amazing, isn't it? Oddly enough Alabama produced better QB's back in the days when they ran the ball and rarely passed. Look up Stabler and Namath's college stats. They were extremely ordinary statistically in college.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...stabler-1.html

Saban's inability to produce NFL QB's actually pre-dates Alabama. In 10 years at LSU and Michigan St. he never coached an NFL quality QB either. Probably the best college QB he ever coached was JaMarcus Russell, early in Russell's LSU stint. We know how he turned out in the NFL...

That ought to tell you something. They don't care as long as they have the best athletes at all the other positions. The sad thing is you said don't mention McCarron but he's probably the best since Stabler.

Those are all HOFers. The last solid pro Alabama QB was Richard Todd.

Looking at the list I'd say McCarron is certainly the "best" Alabama QB in the NFL since Stabler. It's a sad lot.
