I have absolutely nothing to base this on, but I just have the feeling Ohio State is the kind of school that will do whatever they can to keep Meyer and try to brush all of this under the rug. Maybe even create another fall guy.

Just like they were the kind of school to fire a national championship-winning coach for covering up that his players were selling swag to get tattoos?

I went to school there (what seems like a past life ago), and I think that if there's enough smoke (which certainly looks to be the case), then he's gotta go.

which would be really sad if he (urban) let that happen. the ex-assistant's ex-wife (courtney smith) said she told shelley meyer and showed her the pics on her phone. and shelley said she'd tell urban about it. but courtney smith said she doesn't know if shelley told urban, or not. and if i hear her correctly,. she didn't ask if he was informed or not. if so, HOW DO YOU NOT ASK THAT PARTICULAR QUESTION?!

also, i'd be sure to send texts instead of talking on the phone. texts can easily be saved; phone conversations are a bit more difficult to save. but if courtney said she told shelley, and shelley said she told urban, but really didn't, then it's her (either one) word against urban's.

if it was me, i'd try my damnedest to find out urban's phone number and text him the pics directly and let him know what was going on. that way, there is a record of them being sent and received. hell, i'd try and send the pics to as many people as i could. i'd create a trail so that there'd be no doubt that the info was out there.

also, this isn't the first time courtney's ex has done this. he did the same thing while at florida and it was kept quite then. i'm wondering if they'd use that against urban....

Urban should have never had him on the coaching team. That itself is a very stupid move on his part, and morally wrong. But if it’s just allegations with no charges, then he hasn’t really done anything wrong. The police were involved and dismissed it. How would the AD not have known? I don’t know.

I know I’m an OSU fan, and I thought the whole thing with Tressel was stupid as hell. This isn’t the same but right now it’s pretty close. Allegations and hearsay.

Dan Patrick said this morning that the people he's talked to at Ohio State think Iowa State coach Matt Campbell would be the top choice for the job if Urban is ultimately fired. Campbell has a $7 million buyout but Ohio State could certainly afford it if they think he's their guy.

It's especially bad timing for Ohio St. athletics considering their wrestling team also has an ugly scandal, which in that case threatens to bring down a high ranking member of the U.S. Congress.

Urban Meyer released the statement below:

Dear Buckeye Nation:

My heart is heavy today as I witness the toll that events of the past week have taken on the Buckeye Family and the university community that I love so dearly.

When I stand before the 105 young men in our football program and talk about core values and doing the right thing and respecting women, it is not lip-service. I genuinely believe that we have an obligation to help develop the young men in our charge into positive change agents and that responsibility rests with me.

Over the past several days, I have been portrayed as being indifferent to domestic violence and as someone who did not take appropriate action, when warranted. While over three decades of coaching I have learned to ignore how others define me, I do feel it necessary to share the truth with the Buckeye family.

Here is the truth: While at the University of Florida, and now at The Ohio State University, I have always followed proper reporting protocols and procedures when I have learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff by elevating the issues to the proper channels. And, I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015. I take that responsibility very seriously and any suggestion to the contrary is simply false.

The power of what I say and how I say it, especially regarding sensitive and serious domestic issues, has never been more evident than now. My words, whether in a reply to a reporter's question or in addressing a personnel issue, must be clear, compassionate and most of all, completely accurate. Unfortunately, at Big Ten Media Days on July 24th, I failed on many of these fronts. My intention was not to say anything inaccurate or misleading. However, I was not adequately prepared to discuss these sensitive personnel issues with the media, and I apologize for the way I handled those questions.

I understand that there are more questions to be answered and I look forward to doing just that with the independent investigators retained by the University and I will cooperate fully with them. At the appropriate time, I will also address the questions and speculation in a public forum. But for now, out of respect for the ongoing inquiry, I will refrain at this time.

Please know that the truth is the ultimate power and I am confident that I took appropriate action. As I stated above, I deeply regret if I have failed in my words. As the son of an amazing woman and the husband to another and, as the father of two incredible young women, those who know me best know the admiration and respect I have for all women. Our core values are just that—values that do not ever waver.

I ask that you continue to support the incredible coaches and student-athletes in our program, and I look forward to rejoining them soon.

One thing seems certain, somebody is taking the fall for this, and it's hard to see both Urban and athletic director Gene Smith surviving this. Somebody high up is going down, and maybe both Urban and Smith lose their jobs.

I just got a text from ESPN (I have the app) saying that Zach Smith has done an interview w/ESPN that'll air on SportsCenter and in it, he said that Urban Meyer did indeed knew about the incident.

With this new news, it's a when not if, Meyer is fired right?
