Nope, this is completely me. I haven't been here long enough to remember much of this forum since before the B&N sale, so if it was in the first.............900 pages, I probably didn't see it or skimmed it and didn't think much of it.

Regardless, again, completely my original thought, although it can seem obvious why one (or many) would think the same.

I hope no one owns all the blu-rays released because that would mean they own Monsoon Wedding. Ouch.

I own every Criterion release except for The Antichrist, which I will be picking up on Friday...and Monsoon Wedding is not a bad film.

What's wrong with Monsoon Wedding? It's a really good film and the Blu-ray looks great. I'm glad to own this one.

I know that is a lot to take on. I can only use about 10 of the clear ones. If something comes about, put me down for 10.

I have about 80% of the BR releases but will never have them all. There are some I won't buy because they're just not films I'd re-watch.

Antichrist (Criterion)

Director: Lars von Trier
Writer: Lars von Trier
Mains: Willem Dafoe, and Charlotte Gainsbourg

Get Ready to be Totally Confused

Plot:
A couple has lost their child in an unfortunate accident. Torn apart they seek some type of relief for their mistake. The Husband is coping with it quite well but this event is taking its toll on the Wife. The Husband is a therapist and recommends them to go into the wood so his wife can face her greatest fear. Things dont go as planned and this trip turns into a nightmare for the both of them.

My Take: This film is so complex and so well written and directed that its hard to even explain some of the clips. Its very unique that much is true. From the opening scene to the camera work to the erie score its completely original. This film is extremely controversial because of the overall meaning of the film. One could lean one way and one could lean the opposite, its all how you take it. I thought that this film hit harder for myself than any other religious film i've seen. I'm a big fan of The Seventh Seal and The Passion of the Christ but this movie was so cold and so gritty that i felt the evil that Lars von Trier is trying to explain. There is allot of talk about this movie being torture porn and but i dont think that at all. This film just shows nature, us.

Conclusion: I dont know whether to recommend this movie or not but what i can say is it deserves a viewing. Not because of the porn but because of the overall DEEP message and its deep. I appreciated the way this movie was delivered but because of my own ability to comprehend the movie its hard for me to give it a fair shot of a rating. This film is extremely complex and require knowledge of the bible and GOD and satan. Also the history of Christians. I'm a Baptist and i believe in GOD. This movie has nothing negative about GOD himself but more of the sinful nature of man. You truly have to see the film for yourself to grasp the meaning of it. Many reviewer like myself can only tell you what the movie meant to them. Being that this a religious movie you will always have mixed feelings so I encourage you to SEE IT YOURSELF.

MUST SEE

4.5/5

I remember the some of the people that would walk through traffic in P'Cola yelling out some type of quotes. I listened to a lot of Rage Against the Machine at the time and would turn the radio all the way to 11.

Let's not discuss religion in this thread, or any others here.

Own it (DVD and Blu-ray) and watched it too.....

My wife loves this one, and as far as "films my wife loves" goes, this one is one of the much more enjoyable ones to watch with her. My wife's favorite movie, however is "Snatch" oddly enough..... double entendres aside, that's another one I love to enjoy with her.

OK, now back to irrelevant posts: I have a question for anyone that has ordered, not picked up at the store, Bottle Rocket during this sale. Was the copy delivered to your house the digibook, or the plastic cased one?

This sale is kind of driving me nuts. I placed three separate orders, for a total of 38 titles and I've already received 3 cancellations and 4 delays on different titles. What a mess.

Question for the informed here: if a title is out of print, does Criterion ever end up doing another release down the road, or is it usually out of print due to a loss of rights or something along those lines and therefore doomed to be out of print forever?

Thanks.

KT

Yes, the titles usually go OOP due to their licensing rights expiring. Then, it is sometimes a matter of choice, I imagine, whether or not Criterion wants to renew their license, or re-negotiate, for a particular film. I'm sure that all depends on how well the title sold for them.

However, like in the case with all of the Studio Canal-owned titles that went OOP this year, titles may go OOP because Criterion is not given the opportunity to renew their licensing contract. In that case, it could be many years, if ever, until Criterion is once again able to negotiate a new licensing contract for a film.

The following is from Criterion's website:

Quote:
13. Will Criterion rerelease its laserdisc collection, or any older titles that have gone out of print, on DVD or Blu-ray?We would love to be able to rerelease all our laserdisc titles, however it isn’t always possible due to rights issues. We are continuously working on acquiring rights to films we want to include in the collection, including renewing rights for films we previously released on laserdisc, or for DVD titles that have gone out of print. Whether or not we can acquire those rights again, however, depends a lot on the rights holder, and each film is a different case.

Speaking of OOP CC. What is a fair price for purchasing The Third Man?
Is it worth paying $75.00 in U.S. dollars?

An item's value is only worth what someone is willing pay for it.

So, I think only you can really decide if a single film is worth paying $75.

Is it a great film? Sure. Would I, personally, pay $75 for it? No.

If you're only wanting the film for the sake of a collection, then I'd say you're crazy. If you truely enjoy the film and truely want it, then I'm sure you'll find a better deal eventually.

Two different questions there.... I'd say it's only worth what you're willing to pay..... and as far as $75 goes, I think you can find it for $60 pretty easily.

If you must have a plastic case, take that into consideration when looking at how much it is etc....

I would think that your best bet would be to find a digipack version in very poor condition (since the seller will have to sell it at price much less than those selling nice crisp copies) and then shell out the $5 for the case.

I just looked, and I can't find any "poor" conditioned ones right now, but I would just give yourself a couple of weeks to keep your eye out for one.... if nothing shows up, then unfortunately $75 looks like the current going rate.
