There's a brand new 'Buy It Now' on eBay right now with free shipping for $69.95. That's lower than $75.

There's a second 'Bidding' starting out at $50 right now. It ends in two days with no bids so far, but I'm sure that'll change soon.

So, I think only you can really decide if a single film is worth paying $75.

Is it a great film? Sure. Would I, personally, pay $75 for it? No.

If you're only wanting the film for the sake of a collection, then I'd say you're crazy. If you truely enjoy the film and truely want it, then I'm sure you'll find a better deal eventually.

I can remember paying over $100 for about 20 different laserdiscs. I think the Star Wars box set with the George Lucas HB book with no jacket was over $250.

I hear mixed comparisons between the Studio Canal version and this one.
I'm not an ultimate fanboy of CC and I have some SC blus that I love as much as my CCs. I still think the Samurai trilogy on DVD looked terrible and was angered over the $50 price tag at Borders. But if The Third Man looks great, I would not mind the $75.00 cost.

Video interview with Volker Schlöndorff. Hopefully this mean "The Tin Drum" re-release in 2011. Although still waiting for Rashomon, Picnic at Hanging Rock...

I remember when I was buying vintage Looney Tunes on LD (The Golden Age of Looney Tunes), before they began the move to DVD. I paid somewhere between $275 and $375 for Volume 5 boxset (5 LDs), because of the rarity of the set and a few rare cartoons on it. It had been selling at the time for anywhere from $400-$550 on average.

Yeah...guess I was lucky!

I just checked, and it looks like $400 is still the going rate for them in new condition, and $275 or so for them in "good" shape...... this was "Volume 5" but it says 4-LD's if I'm not mistaken.....

By the way, posted in the "other" thread, but my local B&N has an AK-100 in stock..... going tomorrow! Thanks rkish!

I've seen that. Looking at his feedback, it looks like he has sold quite a few copies of the Third Man.

I have $40 to burn at Barnes and Noble for Criterion discs. Suggestions? I already own 8 1/2, Seven Samurai, Benjamin Button, Paths of Glory, and Seventh Seal.

However, like in the case with all of the Studio Canal-owned titles that went OOP this year, titles may go OOP because Criterion is not given the opportunity to renew their licensing contract. In that case, it could be many years, if ever, until Criterion is once again able to negotiate a new licensing contract for a film.

The following is from Criterion's website:

Good stuff, thanks for your help.

I am trying to track down a copy of The Man Who Fell To Earth for a little while now and was wondering on the prospects of getting a new release eventually. I guess it does not look good.

Just two weeks ago I posted in the "WTB Thread" here on BD.com in the Trading Forum that I was looking for a copy. Worked it out with a guy and it got here on Monday in immaculate condition (Scanavo case!; still in shrinkwrap).

$53 incl. shipping and PayPal fees. I was pretty happy with it overall and the transaction was very smooth. It did, however, teach me to take Criterion seriously when they say, "Buy now! Going OOP!"

There are curently 3 Criterion blu's that I do not own (2 of which I probably never will). Monsoon Wedding is not one of them. I actually enjoyed this movie quite a lot and will watch it again. To each his own.

Yes I do, that's when I bought it, plastic case too.

I would also be interested in hearing if anyone's gotten any of the other older releases from BN in the new cases yet. Wouldn't mind adding Chungking and Marienbad to the collection (have to place another order anyway as my original source for The Thin Red Line decided to give me a refund instead of replacement for a copy that got smashed in the post), but the overseas shipping for the replacement cases is too expensive.

Conclusion: I dont know whether to recommend this movie or not but what i can say is it deserves a viewing. Not because of the porn but because of the overall DEEP message and its deep. I appreciated the way this movie was delivered but because of my own ability to comprehend the movie its hard for me to give it a fair shot of a rating. This film is extremely complex and require knowledge of the bible and GOD and satan. Also the history of Christians. I'm a Baptist and i believe in GOD. This movie has nothing negative about GOD himself but more of the sinful nature of man. You truly have to see the film for yourself to grasp the meaning of it. Many reviewer like myself can only tell you what the movie meant to them. Being that this a religious movie you will always have mixed feelings so I encourage you to SEE IT YOURSELF.

MUST SEE

4.5/5[/QUOTE]

I must disagree that the film has nothing negative to say about god. I take it as a film about how disgusting and inherently bad human beings are, but also the film acknowledges the fact that god is completely absent. To me, the film at many points (as with every single lars von trier film I've seen excluding the boss of it all) suggests that god gave up on us and is simply letting us destroy ourselves. Maybe it's because I'm an atheist and put a different spin on it...who knows?

More like the sinful nature of WOMAN. Excellent film. Can't wait to check out the LVT commentary. I'm going to Barnes and Noble now to pick up. they have it on hold for me. Sweet.

Default Top 5 must have Criterions.

Hi everone.

With the B&N 50% off sale going on on Criterion titles, I want to start buying some Criterions.
Obviously, I cant buy all worhy movies at ones, thats why I need your help to know which are top 5 must have Criterion titles.

I am open to all type of movies.
So, your recommendations can be based on the quality of the movie itself, as well as its technical presentation (be it old or new)

Seven Samurai

(However, the majority of their collection is worth owning)

I would like to point out one slight issue with the review of Antichrist. It certainly sounds like an interesting movie.

Quote:
Second, Antichrist is an explicit film. Not dirty, explicit. The sex is mechanical, cold and ugly. He and She have sex to temporarily escape the pain. In a cynical sort of way, Antichrist shows that sex is a form of therapy that works (unlike religion, which isn't even mentioned).
Was that really necessary? I'm certain such a comment would not be tolerated on the forum. I don't see why it would be necessary to include the comment in your review. And just in case you were wondering, I strongly disagree. I know plenty of people who found peace in religion.
