Isn't the film set in a world were the devil made man not god? If I'm right than what does god have to do with the film?

To fully understand this movie you need to have a great deal of knowledge about Christan.
1. God created man in his image
2. God never "defeated" satan he kicked him out of heaven with all of his followers.
3. God gave Satan the power on earth to trick men into sin. We need to chose what good or bad. Thus making it rewarding to see his father if you live by his law.

4. MOST OF ALL YOU NEED TO BE A CHRISTIAN AND OR KNOW THE BIBLE. NOT RUMORS BUT ACTUALLY READ IT.

Men believe woman are the gateway to satan. That why there were feared so much during the old days. Since the beginning women have had to power to sway a mans mind. ADAM in EVE, Samson and Delilah, etc. It still happens today.

There isnt one BAD thing about GOD in this film.

Does anyone know how cancelation works on B&N?
I cancelled my previous order but it still shows. It told me I will receive a cancelation e-mail in 1 hour, plus some extra cacellation charges may apply.
What does this mean?

has it shipped yet? maybe they charge you a cancellation fee if it has shipped, since they'll have to process the package when it is returned, etc.

From what I've seen, my personal 5 favorite Criterion releases are thus:

1. Last Year At Marienbad
--Visually stunning, utilizing a technique that feels similar to a Phillip Glass composition. The storyline is as cylical as the visual (and audio) techinques. Absolutely gorgeous to boot.

2. The Wages of Fear
--Didn't know what to expect from this one, but a story that seems simple on paper is rift with tension from the get-go. Some great characters really drive this one over the top for me.

3. Seven Samurai
--Just a perfect film. I tend to find longer movies tedious, but the 3 1/2 hour runtime on this blows by so it feels hardly 2 hours long. Captivating, and tense at times.

4. Repulsion
--I love Roman Polanksi, and this is one of his early greats. A horrifying film, but using mental instability as the crux of the problem rather than things that go boo in the night. The special effects are riviting... and Polanksi doesn't spoon-feed the viewer to tell them what is real and what isn't.

5. Paths of Glory
--Not a big fan of war films, but this eclipses most by focusing on beurocratic ridiculousness rather than actual conflict. Lines are delivered with the snazz of a Monty Python sketch, but with the seriousness the topic demands. Oh yeah, and Stanley Kubrick is always essential.

Other great picks one cannot go wrong with: The Seventh Seal, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Stagecoach, the Yojimbo/Sanjuro boxset, Vivre sa Vie, Breathless, The Leopard, M, Mystery Train... I could go on and on.

Breathless - a highly influential work, among the first of the French New Wave
The Leopard - magisterial
The Red Shoes - stunning transfer
Seven Samurai - one of the greatest films ever made
The Thin Red Line - incredible BD, wondrous for the home theatre

But it's not fair to restrict yourself only to five!

And two from Bergman: The Seventh Seal and The Magician

I know that's eight, but hey, they're 50% off.
Seems I've taken your advice over the last two years on the Godard, Malick, and Wenders...haven't bitten on the Bergman yet...too much coming out in the next month and the BBS set is going to kill me!

Still off-topic, but I watched Beauty and the Beast last night on BD for the first time, and the first time I had seen it in probably 10 years. Truly amazing.

& the preview for The Lion King Blu-ray that played before the movie ... I was honestly choked up. I'm 21, so TLK came out right when I was the picture perfect age and my sister and I grew up obsessed. It was an odd, but oddly awesome, feeling.
