Well, I just hate to be polluted by a critic's thinking. For example, a critic, in their review, might say something like "character X was completely unjustified in treating character Z so harshly". So, with that in my tiny pea brain, as I watch the film, I will be thinking about how X treats Z and whether they deserved it, instead of simply taking in the story and having all of my thoughts be truly my own.

I liked Shazam. I thought it was more of a B or B- but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The 3D was pretty good, not amazing.

Easy solution, particularly in this era. Do NOT read reviews before seeing the film.

Watched Top Gun. Thought the 3D was OK. The movie didn't seem so corny 30 years ago. All I could think about when they were playing volleyball was the net must have been set at 5 ft so Tom could jump higher than it.

Just bought a whole stack of 3D movies from DDDHouse. They’ve been doing a 3D “summer sale” for months now and I’m not sure when it will end but the shipping restrictions between America and Hong Kong have loosened so shipping only took a week for me (the last time I bought from DDD, I waited 100 days because they literally shipped it by sea). Most of these movies were under $10 to $15 each.

I got:
• Space Pirate Captain Harlock - amazing Japanese CGI animation in 3D, way cheaper than tracking down the limited edition Twilight Time disc but has none of the special features. Otherwise it looks gorgeous and has English subtitles.
• Ghost in the Shell SAC: Solid State Society - post-converted 2D to 3D anime film. I already own the series and films on a nice boxset but was curious about the conversion. I didn’t watch all of it but it definitely looks like an afterthought, though any CGI in the film looks great in 3D, such as the opening credits. The actual 2D animation looks kind of awkward, more like paper-cut outs. Not the same quality as Disney’s 3D conversions of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.
• Flying Swords of Dragon Gate - this film has “optimized Colour Image by Director” Tsui Hark (Once Upon a Time in China) and I assume that means the color correction has been modified to accommodate the 3D glasses. This movie looks really great in 3D, and exclusively to this Hong Kong release, the entire movie is open-matte 1.78:1 which greatly benefits the 3D image.
• The Sword Master, haven’t watched this one yet but it looks like another campy wuxia flick like Flying Swords
• The Taking of Tiger Mountain, also haven’t watched it yet but I did see it in 3D in China years ago. It’s not that great of a film but it’s Tsui Hark and the 3D edition is exclusive to Hong Kong.

Some other films on sale that I may consider getting if the sale doesn’t end too soon: The Little Prince, Office (by Johnnie To), Mermaid (Stephen Chow) and Wolf Warrior

The Mermaid by Stephen Chow is fantastic, and you don't need to speak Chinese to find his style hilarious. Chow is a master of visual and physical humor, and his slapstick staging lends itself well to 3D. Plus it's native and in 1.90 aspect ratio.

Friday the 13th, Part 3. Shockingly good 3D. Shockingly boring movie. Welcome to amateur hour. Even Amityville 3D was better! Ouch.

Bad news, 3D fans. The new PlayStation 5 won't play 3D Blu-ray: https://blog.playstation.com/2020/11...-ultimate-faq/

Even though the PS4 and PS4 could play them, and could even output to their VR headset.

I'm hearing the same bad news for the XBOX Series X, which also released this week. 😵

The Taking of Tiger Mountain in 3D isn't exclusive to Hong Kong but it is the only 3D edition with English subtitles.

Office has very weak 3D but you can't go wrong with Mermaid or Wolf Warrior

My latest purchase was Kin-Dza-Dza but it turned out to be a BD-R so I'll be returning it, damn those Russian pirates!

There is a 3D version of that film?

Watched Natalie 3D (Korean)

Full frame native 3D and well done. The "erotic" parts have stronger 3D than the rest of the movie. I like the stronger 3D but it was a bit of a distraction as the subtitles move farther out of the plane and distract my eye. It is an OK love triangle story - but another movie that I watched mostly because of the 3D.

The one I'm referring to is with Alex Skarsgard and Samuel Jackson, did I get the title wrong? Too many damn Tarzan movies.
