He was slated to go top 10 before his injury. For argument's sake, let's say he would've gone at pick 9 where Leonard Floyd of CHI was taken.

Leonard Floyd signed a 4 year, $15,782,861 contract with the Chicago Bears, including a $9,678,444 signing bonus, $15,332,861 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,945,715. In 2018, Floyd will earn a base salary of $1,884,806, while carrying a cap hit of $4,304,417 and a dead cap value of $9,326,236.

That's a big difference money-wise, even more so considering Bosa is going top 3. What if he comes back, re-aggravates it (a core injury that required surgery), and slips down the draft board?

Like I said, we can agree to disagree. Is it a selfish move? Absolutely. Is it the right thing to do for him? Absolutely. The Buckeyes will move on and reload just as they always do.

I definitely understand that a Top 5 pick's salary is substantially more than that of a later Round 1 pick, or later. I'm just saying, no matter where he gets drafted, he's getting paid a very high sum of money. And that's just his rookie deal. Throw in endorsements and if he's as good as he's cracked out to be, he'll get a mega deal eventually.

I don't like the greediness that these PLAYERS need all this money.

I see both sides, but I still think it's a shit move.

I agree with your point about getting the 'mega deal' after his rookie contract expires, especially if he's as good as he's made out to be. His brother's a beast but can't stay healthy, either.

I don't think it's greed on the players' end; it's simply a case of 'make as much as you can while you can'. They're making what owners are willing to pay, and with NFL players' shelf lives as finite as they are, I don't think anyone can really hold trying to maximize their earning potential against them.

I actually think MLB contracts are way worse than NFL's, if for no other reason that they're fully guaranteed (Kirk Cousins' new deal is the only NFL exception). MLB owners need to wise up there, because there's no doubt the Angels are regretting the number of years on Albert Pujols' deal and the Tigers are doing with same with Miguel Cabrera's.

Wait until Bryce Harper's and Manny Machado's deals this winter are announced. The figures on those are going to be insane, and you know who's licking his chops in anticipation on the extent of those deals? Francisco Lindor.

Can't be mad at Nick. You gotta do what you gotta do. He probably doesn't make it back until at best the bowl game, whatever that will be, anyway. I just hope it doesn't set a trend. I know players did it in bowl games but not during the regular season.

I agree. I really hate this movement with players quitting their teams to get ready for the draft. I'm pretty sure they can get insured against potential injury anyway, diminishing the loss is they suffer a serious injury that damages their future NFL career.

They could but...

it has been talked about forever and just never really happened. In this Bosa situation I don't think it would change anything.

How would that work though? Title IX would require the women's swimmer or golf player to get the same payment as the football or basketball player. Maybe the major conferences could afford that but it would undoubtedly lead to less popular sports (for both sexes) getting cut. In addition most schools outside the major conferences (and some major conference schools) lose money on athletics, so suddenly adding potentially millions in additional costs wouldn't work. I'm not completely against college athletes getting paid, but I don't know how it would work.

Yeah, it would be a mess to sort out for sure. I just don’t think the football and basketball players are getting a fair shake with all the money and publicity they bring to the table for their respective programs.

I don't blame Nick Bosa. I'm a University of Houston fan and every game I worry that Ed Oliver is going to get hurt. Yes, I want to see him on the field but I can't blame him if he decides to sit and protect his future salary.

SEC has been paying players for years. NCAA can’t pay more than they do already. Plus it just means more coming from the SEC boosters.

Great story about an Ohio State fan helping a Penn State fan with a kidney.

How is it possible that Jim Harbaugh can’t recruit a quarterback that doesn’t suck?

It boggles my mind.

It’s the same thing every single year with Michigan.

great defense...completely meat and potatoes offense with no passing game and can’t run the ball against good defenses.

...I don’t think they can win a national championship under Harbaugh.

More innovative play calling would help
