Nothing I’ve flat out regretted but def films I’ve thought were good or interesting but that I probably wouldn’t watch again any time soon. The Organizer and Gomorrah come to mind

Im assuming criterion decided to focus on their streaming channel instead of launching 4k discs. I think they made the right choice. The Channel is amazing.

One of the 3 neaest to me excited toys and shrunk movies a lot. They got rid of half the Criterion section, they seriously only had half the alphabet out, and they left it that way. The other I just don't like where it is. The "good one" hopefully didn't expand the toys like the first I mentioned. I'll find out when I go in the coming week
I live in CT but I shop in MA, because that is where I work and it's most convenient for me to stop in during my lunch hour. I can't speak for the B&N stores in my local area, but I've had good luck with the Walpole, MA store, both with their selection of Criterions and with the helpfulness of their employees.

Yeah it is but the video quality is nowhere near UHD or even Bluray

Would the fact that 4K discs being region free concern any boutique label that typically only have rights for certain regions/countries? Like, if Criterion put out a 4K disc of Bicycle Thieves, would that not impact Arrow and their UK release of the title? Would studios who are licensing these titles to individual labels in separate regions be okay with that?

I never gave this much thought, but I think this raises an excellent issue. It's quite possible that Criterion could not release a 4K UHD even if they wanted to.

I suppose they might have to draw up new contracts with studios, I have no idea. I know Arrow have also stated that they have no plans for UHD right now. There are some European labels that have done UHD releases though, but most movies coming out on the format are from the studios themselves.

I took advantage of Target's current B2G1 sale to pre-order three Criterion titles that won't be released until after the current B&N sale:
Tunes of Glory
The Story of Temple Drake
Holiday

[Show spoiler]
With a discounted gift card they came to under $19 each, including tax.

I plan to pick up Now, Voyager in-store when it is released, and maybe one other, possibly Local Hero or Matewan and I'll be good.

I watched the Herschell Gordon Lewis collection over the weekend and was amazed at how good it looked. So i really dont know what quality is being put out, but the most important thing is having access to hundreds of films for a low price.

Wow. Yesterday I went to one my two local Barnes & Nobles stores, and the store I went to had recently re-located from down the street, and in this new location I found that there was no Movie/Music section at all anymore. Strictly books, kids section, calendars, etc. but not a Blu-ray/DVD in sight. I'm thinking that the other local B&N (a bigger space, and at a large mall) still would have the movie section, so I'll check it out this weekend to get in on the sale. Obviously I could just order online but I like to go to physical stores whenever I can, and now I'm curious...

Mine: Eating Raoul. I even sold it to a Second-hand media shop not long afterwards.
A Room With a View. I thought that I'd enjoy the period piece aspect and I generally enjoy great actors doing there thing at a high level. This wasn't my cup of tea, however. It lost me probably 5 minutes in.

I see you're in Delaware, and I assume you're talking about the Concord Pike location. They moved at the beginning of the last Criterion sale, and when I called to see if they had some titles, they informed me they would not be carrying blu-rays or dvds in the new location. Thankfully, the store in Christiana still has a decent selection, I bought a few on Friday.

UHDs being region free shouldn’t be a factor at all, if anything, it comes down to cost to produce, manufacture, and encode UHD discs.

Haha, I forgot that my location is visible...yep, you're spot-on, I was checking out the new Concord Pike location for the first time. Good to hear about the Christiana Mall location, I figured this was the case. Will give it a visit this weekend, I'm setting my sights on Local Hero and we'll see what else.

I Was a Teenage Zombie

This film, with my personal tastes and opinions, was an absolute blast. The two most surprising things about it are that Janus/Criterion own the rights to it and it appears to NOT have been associated with Troma in anyway, even if there is a shoutout to Lloyd Kaufman in it. Also fun to note the director did sound on Toxic Avenger and co-wrote/had a role in Splatter University.

I would not have been surprised if this film was released on Blu through Vinegar Syndrome. With that though, does anyone think Criterion would ever release this on Blu-Ray? I'm not one to deem something "Criterion worthy" or not, but like I said this is more Troma than Bergman. And this isn't exactly Night of the Living Dead quality. I would still love to pickup a physical copy though.

It's on the Criterion Channel for anyone who has yet to see or are interested and have access to it (also appears to be on Prime). Love the soundtrack.

I do too. I wish they were longer as well. Sayles only gets to discuss about 4 movies because he isn't in there gushing over everything and trying to get it in his bag. Give him 15 or 20 mins. I'll listen to whole thing.

Are there any television series that have had the Criterion Collection treatment? Or is it all just movies? I am thinking about becoming region free.
