“Berlin Alexanderplatz” and “World on a Wire” are two that come to mind. There is also the DVD-only “The Golden Age OG Television”.

So underrated. I watched that last year for the first time, and it might be kind of an acquired taste regarding the kind of humor in this one, but I was on its wavelength.

You had no room for a longer view than 5 minutes? C'mon, now.

Criterion, if you're reading this, could you please make a deal with Amazon and release Refn's Too Old to Die Young? I'll gladly purchase it day one at whatever price you charge. Thank you.

Not film & not really TV either but The Beastie Boys Video Anthology (DVD only) is brilliant. With all the different versions of each video & mixes of the songs, you can have hours of fun
Only downside is that it there's nothing from the def jam years

Watched Barry Lyndon for the first time yesterday. Holy smokes, that was a experience! It was like was watching a moving oil painting. So immersive, didn’t feel like 3 hours.

Saw Ophuls’ Le Plaisir last night. This is an incredibly well made and charming anthology film of three Guy de Maupassant stories. The last section doesn’t work as well as the first two but those first two see Ophuls operating at a very high level and in contrasting styles. Some of the camerawork throughout is just phenomenal and the middle section also features Jean Gabin in an atypical role.

I saw it via Gaumont’s blu. The source uses seems a bit variable in terms of sharpness and definition and overall the movie looks a bit too blown out than was probably intended, but the overall look still does great justice to the cinematography. Arrow has also released a blu ray from Gaumont’s restoration and looks virtually identical in screenshots.

Hopefully Criterion will look to upgrade their DVD at some point.

I just watched And Life Goes On by Kiarostami for the first time after seeing Where is the Friend’s Home about a year ago. All I can say is I will be picking up the Koker Trilogy very soon from the B&N sale. The level of emotion this film conveys is astounding considering its simplicity. No flashy editing or melodrama, just a master filmmaker at work.

I see a Kiarostami binge in my near future.

On BD & DVD:
Berlin Alexanderplatz
World on a Wire
Dekalog

On BD & DVD, TV mini-series versions included with the releases of the theatrical versions:
Fanny and Alexander
Scenes from a Marriage

There are also a few other movie titles that include a prior television play version. One example that comes to mind is 12 Angry Men, which includes, in addition to the television play version of 12 Angry Men, another television play directed by Sidney Lumet

On DVD:
Fishing with John
Tanner '88
The Golden Age of Television (includes the 50s television plays "Marty", "Patterns", "No Time for Sergeants", "A Wind from the South", "Requiem for a Heavyweight", "Bang the Drum Slowly", "The Comedian", "Days of Wine and Roses")

On Laserdisc only:
The Addams Family (two episodes + extras)
I Love Lucy (ditto)
Tanner '88 (3 volumes)

The five LDs were released under the "Criterion Television" sub-imprint.

Do you prefer Gilliam's 12 Monkeys, which is just a bloated version of La Jetée? Personally, I prefer the Marker film, which at the very least has the virtue of being unlike pretty much any film that came before it. Gilliam took over two hours to tell a story that Marker told in ¼ of the time.

To everyone that talked me into buying The Heiress, I watched it tonight and WHOA- EVERYTHING IS TRUE! That ending alone- wow- It is a great movie!!

Anyone wanna talk me into giving Night and the City a 4th chance at liking it? (Although at this point, I'd say Its a no from me)

The most constant criticism I've encountered about Barry Lyndon over the years is that it's "boring" and for the life of me I can't even begin to comprehend that.

I mean, different strokes and everything, but I find it to be one of the engrossing and transfixing cinematic experiences there is every time I allow myself the privilege of watching it.

Just unabashed bliss.

Scorsese confirmed that Criterion is going to release Italianamerican. I imagine that it'll be a part of a set with some of his other early short works (American Boy and Big Shave, most likely.)

Thank you my friend, I will try Berlin Alexanderplatz as I am a big fan of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. I am concerned as to how it stacks up against his other work, however?
