The scene was cut from the original release. The scene needed to be reconstructed for a re-release, in particular the audio which had been lost. Tony Curtis was still alive and provided his own voice, but Olivier had died. On the set of The Lion in Winter (I think), Katherine Hepburn learned of Anthony Hopkins' perfect impression of Olivier. Word got to whomever was doing the reconstruction, and Hopkins ended up doing the Olivier lines.

I have a habit of reading the IMDB trivia page after every movie I watch.

It's like a condensed "making-of" documentary in text form.

I'd agree that Crassus is by far the best character in Kubrick's Spartacus. Olivier was chewing scenery as the villain and enjoying every moment of it.

Imo the funniest gag Spielberg ever did, is still the swordsman showing off his skills and invite a duel, only for Indy to unholster his revolver and shoot him.
