I actually watch a Wales game every year in Cardiff, cannot beat the atmosphere.

Back on track.....yeah it's updated
After yesterday's performance I'm worried

I try to get to a six nations match each year, loads of fun

Haven't noticed anything with my download speeds, my isp gives me 100 meg download, the PS4 speed tests itself at only 25, where as my laptop hits 50 over Wi-Fi or 106 over Ethernet.

honestly it feels like by the time they add all these basic features from the PS3 that people have been begging about, we will be gearing up for the PS5. We're approaching Year 3 of the PS4 and Sony has been way too slow with their updates

If by Nov 16th 2015' ..yeah.. 2 years 1 day old.

Not too concerned as the system's OS doesn't even feel the same since PS4's launch by comparison, but asking for PS3 features really never was on their to-do list. So anything that does come along non-gaming related, I consider that a bonus nota shoulda been.

Yes, but it should at least be able to do everything its predecessor could do since day one. Everything they add after that should be a bonus, not the other way around. It's all good, though, I guess. Just a reason to not sell the PS3.

People were under no illusion before buying a PS4. We all bought a PS4 for what it was.

Last gen it was everyone complaining about the amount of updates there were now this time around we are getting them fewer and father apart and now it's not enough.

I'd rather they work on new features we really should have like folders and a sort option for digital content than get PS3 features up and running on a PS4.

i disagree the new system does not need to do everything the old system does

sony stated at the start of PS4 being announced they were going back to making a GAMING machine .. not an all in one .. and honestly most people dont use half the non gaming crap anyway ..everyone wants every device to do everything under the sun ... phones that do everything .. tvs that do everything .... its just out of hand...

Folders was a feature of the PS3. Something basic like that the PS3 could do yet the PS4 still cant. Have they ever even added the abilty to use bluetooth headsets?

And everyone complained about updates on the PS3? Speak for yourself. The PS4 seems to be getting just as many updates as the PS3. The problem is by and large most of the PS4's updates are fluffs. Way too many of the firmware updates are to "improve stability" or some other BS line. The actual substantial updates which add features are few and fare between but we get tons of the stability updates. If the PS4 added a new feature each month, Id take it. Downloading and installing firmware isnt a big deal, if it actually adds something to the experience

I'm very close to buying a dedicated blu-ray player. PS4 is fine, but it seems like overkill to fire this thing up to watch a film.

Personally I'm happy with the PS4 and what it does, yes, there are a couple of features I'd like to see but I don't need it to replicate everything the PS3 did; that was then, this is now.

I'd like to be able to load my screen grabs to some of the cloud storage options like Photos, Dropbox, etc.

This right here. I see it mentioned repeatedly and yet I never once saw on any website or message board people complaining.

How hard is that?

Probably because you don't have to sit & wait for it to finish before the games are playable again.

obviously you were not a day one adopter of ps3 because it was not a day one feature and in fact had to be patched into the system months later as well ...

where in my quote did I say that was a day one feature? Most of the things people loved about the PS3 werent available day 1

Months later as well? LOL....with the PS4 it will now be YEARS later

Sure I do. My system downloads firmware and game updates in sleep mode but never installs them until the system is fully powered on and I tell it to do so even though I have the correct settings enabled.

I was kinda leaning towards game updates but as for system ones I usually wait 5 minutes & then everything is good to go.

The PS4, PS3 and XB1 are waiting on Playready 3 and Playready ND DRM. ooVoo can't be released because one of it's features is watching a commercial video while video chatting with a friend(s), same for Miracast and embedded DLNA with DRM support.

Games could be supported from day one but the Media Delay has been in part Playready 3/ND and in part 4K blu-ray with maybe everyone waiting for the FCC DSTAC DSS (Downloadable Security Scheme replacing the Cable Card) to implement even the older Vidipath the FCC required Cable TV DVRs to support by June 2015 using DLNA 2 and WMDRM10 which can only support resolutions up to 1080i. I expect this CES 2016 the Vidipath ecosystem including 4K blu-ray digital bridge using Playready ND, Vidipath (client and server/DVR) using Playready ND and Downloadable Security scheme using either Vidipath and Playready ND or Playready 3 and HTML5 <video> MSE will be announced.

We get Radio APPs and Self contained DRM video APPs....no video apps using the PS3 or PS4 software stack for DRM. The DLNA player is a temp without DRM. I expected HEVC and DRM to be in the XB1 and PS4 this October and ooVoo could be released quickly followed by new Video APPs like Netflix which is currently 1.1 GB and should drop to less than 30 MB if using the PS4 or PS3's HTML5 <video> MSE stack (in Southbridge) and Thin C++ layer providing the APIs that Playready uses.

When the PS3 and PS4 have Playready integrated into the OS we can get the full DLNA 3 and Miracast and with the proper W3C extensions we get an updated browser that can support Vidipath and also the 2016 replacement for a Cable card (Downloadable Security Scheme. With the proper handling for Metadata and Flags we get the ability to support TV Tuners and DVR support.

Microsoft has already announced USB tuner and DVR support for 1080P Antenna TV in the next XB1 firmware update. 1080P support for Antenna TV = ATSC 2.0 support ATSC 1.0 only supports up to 1080i. ATSC 2.0 requires the blu-ray codec which a 2013 or later Smart TV or STB with HTML5 Browser and most of the same W3C extensions needed by Vidipath can support.

From Microsoft's Playready 3 site: Supporting In-Home Content Distribution with PlayReady for Network Devices page 14

Quote:
"The game console, acting as a PlayReady ND transmitter, has obtained a license from the service and it sends media files to valid PlayReady ND receivers that are part of the same in-home network. It also uses PlayReady technologies to build and issue local licenses to authorized receiving devices. Note that this model can also be applied to both live streams, video-on-demand and DVR content."
Following this XB1 update the PS4 should have an update supporting the same and then both leapfrogging with more and more features up to 4K blu-ray with digital bridge allowing streaming of Blu-ray media over the home network.

Late 2013 Microsoft released the Playready ND porting kits for iOS and Android and the Panasonic 4K Digital bridge proposal mentions Playready ND for handhelds (page 7). iOS handhelds and Android handhelds have ARM Trustzone TEE as does the XB1 and PS4.

The PS4 will be a 4K blu-ray player
Media plans for the XB1 and PS4 shown in papers to the FCC and whitepapers
All Playstation Platforms to use Playready which points to a significant PS3 update
