Overpriced to be sure.
If they’re asking this much for the SE travesties, how much will they charge for the unaltered versions, if they’re ever released? This is looking like a very easy pass. |

I wonder if the standard Blu-Ray copies included of the Original & Prequel Trilogies in the upcoming 4K set will feature new 1080p transfers from the 4K Masters or if they will simply be the 2011 Blu-Ray versions repackaged?

More than likely just the 2011 versions repackaged.

Yeesh, guys. What is it about Star Wars that brings out the worst in people? Even on these boards (where I’ve often found people here to be “cool geeks”).
For goodness sake, no official details about this set have even been released and a lot of you are acting like it’s the end of the world. A lot of you are also acting like this is some new way of releasing movies. Practically every 4K release includes a Blu-ray copy, why is it all of a sudden a surprise and / or problem when Star Wars does it? And if you absolutely don’t want new Blu-rays, you can either sell them out of this set, or sell off the ones you already have to offset the cost of this new set. Also, there are individual 4K releases of the movies coming out, why are people having meltdowns and acting like this box set is the only way to get Star Wars on 4K? I know “there might be exclusive bonus discs”, but we don’t even know what this set is actually going to have. And if it does have bonus discs? Well then you have to make a decision.. JUST like in 2011 when the Blu-rays came out. Either get the set of all movies that might have packaging that you don’t care for but includes extras, or go for the more barebones but simpler set. This isn’t new. Let’s wait and see what this box set and the individual releases have. There will probably be separate trilogy sets somewhere down the line too. The point is, there might not be a release that’s specifically perfect for you. But that’s life sometimes. You have to make sacrifices or choose something you don’t want in compromise sometimes. |

If you're going to buy it then you're going to buy it... if you're not going to buy it then you're not going to buy it.
It's a simple as that really regardless of the packaging, tech specs, bonus content, versions of the movies on disc. Returning to a thread repeatedly to tear down a release that you've stated you're not going to buy for x,y and z reasons over and over just seems like an absolute waste of time and energy. |

People talking about selling off extra-less Blu-ray discs. I'd do that if there was a more convenient way, along with the dumb slipcovers. In the time it would take me to photograph a slipcover, make a listing, make an agreement with a buyer and take it to the post office, I could probably make more money working than the thing is worth. Caseless Blu-rays probably don't have much value either.
This shit right here is starting to annoy me. ![]() |

The $250 price is a bit much. I think I paid $80 for the BD set at release date. That would be about $120 with the sequel trilogy added for BD edition if these films were out back then. So $250 is more than double the $120 for one format upgrade. I would say $200 tops.

As this gets more niche, prices will only go up. |

Hating changes to an already special edition product (in the 1997 versions) is perfectly valid. I mean at this point you need to concede it's upwards of 50 year olds who first cringed at the changes made when they were 30 at the time, to films that came out when they were children or just turned into teens. I repeat they are creeping on 50 years old by now. You mean those "bro fanboys"???
Shit if these bros ain't your Dad's bros... Might as well throw out "ok boomer" into this thread, as well, while you're at it being asinine. |

The only one stopping it is Lucas. Whether it’s in his deal, or a good will gesture - there is a reason for it that the Mouse can’t overcome clearly.
Having the original untouched versions is a cash cow Disney would be all over if they could release them. Some of the touch-ups added to the originals look more dated now than anything in the original cuts. That Han walking behind Jabba moment is just awful. |

I can't see how anyone could confidently say the clean looking CG is more realistic. Special Editions are unwatchable. Wish I could find a fullscreen comparison. Last edited by Bn43; 01-21-2020 at 12:31 PM. |

4K becoming niche? I wouldn't count on that, or that i don't see it that way. Even though there is less films on 4K, i see 4k as something that is easily available in stores and a general consumer product the same as a Blu-Ray is, and after a few months or however long, the prices also drop like a stone like Blu-Ray's do. I wouldn't put 4K in the same category as a lazerdisc, in my experience i didnt know anybody with a lazerdisc player, or bought lazerdiscs. That's probably why lazerdiscs are now something as niche, whereas 4K is much more of a general consumer product that most people are aware of. So i dont see it becoming some special thing. |
