Can a 25% off coupon be applied to a pre-order done in store?

Well my 'Seven Samurai' had to be back ordered, so I am assuming that a pre-order would be the same. I would think so, but I guess that I could be wrong.

However that coupon ends at midnight tonight, so RUN like the wind!!!!

Seven Samurai isn't a pre-order...... and I don't believe the coupon works on Pre-orders..... but you could try I guess.

It's cheaper at the Criterion webstore with the 10% off RHINO code.

But I actually think that Family Video has it for something like $82.99. That's the lowest up to this point.

Yep. You are absolutely right.

I just read the 'fine print' on it, and it was not redeemable for products on 'pre-order'.

My bad. sorry.

Some people have had success using the 25% discount coupon on in-store pre-orders. I think it's worth a try at least.

Also, the coupon is valid to the close of business November 14.

Off-topic: Anyone have the slightest idea what brand of glasses these are? I have to get glasses and I'm quite fond of these frames.

What are thoughts of Antichrist on blu? I know it's kinda controversial and/or will not be for everyone (as many Criterions tend to be)....but I'm planning to rent before I buy.

How's the replay value? Movie itself? Transfer is no doubt solid. Thanks!

I watched it earlier today. The first hour was somewhat tedious, but the last half hour was pretty insane. Kind of like the way Miike's "Audition" is. After taking in the ending, I put the whole first hour into perspective & realized the climax would not have been as shocking without the ultra-slow buildup.

The film has been on my mind all day, and I must say I did like it. Charlotte Gainsbourg did a tremendous job and Willem Dafoe is one of my favorite actors. PQ and AQ are top-notch and the extras are excellent and plentiful. If you think you can handle the extreme sex and violence, I would recommend it easy. As far as re-watch value, I will certainly revisit this one once more at least. Other than that, I am proud to have it in the collection.

there are many reviews in the movie review and discussion thread
i think so far 7 of us have "liked" the film compared to 2 that didn't.

general consensus is that the cinematography, atmosphere and directing are all top notch and the first hour is a bit slow and the movie takes awhile to really hook you. performances are also great (mainly the female lead). and the film doesn't have a lot to be controversial about, but there are a good 5-6 scenes that are not particularly for the faint of heart.

if you like films with deep themes, darker in tone and will make you think long after it's ended, then it might be up your alley for a blind buy. but it is also available on netflix streaming. i personally love dark, theme heavy films, but don't know if i would buy it because while it does have replay value to figure out and see things differently or more clearly, it's not something i would watch very often, maybe once or twice and then that could be it, but not positive.

hope this helps a bit

For me, it was no question that I was going to buy it, because, like most all of LvT's films, it begs for multiple viewings. Very heavy in themes that aren't easy to understand after just a watch or two and certainly up for many different interpretations (as proven in the couple sporadic discussions in this thread). You're right to say that it is not for everyone, and maybe even more so than most in the Collection. The violence is incredibly graphic at times, but never gratuitous, imo.

Anyway, it's definitely worth a watch, if just to witness two actors at the top of their game. The performances by Dafoe and Gainsbourgh are quite gripping, and the look of the film is gorgeous.

Wow! Thank you all for the wonderful responses and reviews. I do like heavy thematic material, darker themes, psychology etc. So it does sound like it will be a safer blind buy. May have to pull the trigger after all before the half off criterion sale ends at B&N hehe!

I will be honest with you.
I dont recommend it as a buy at all.

Its just a very confusing movie overall, and trust me, you will have zero intention and desire to revisit it after its finished. Its just a movie thats meant to be watched only once.

Rent it.

I would have said the same thing shortly after I watched it for the first time about nine months ago. However, I decided to purchase it today at B&N, just because it is completely unlike any other film I have ever seen.

While I can't say that I like "Antichrist" in the typical way films are enjoyed, it is such an unique piece of art that I wanted to have it in my collection. I think it's fairly safe to say that I won't be rewatching it once every month or two, but I will probably watch it at least once or twice in the next couple of years. I'll also spend quite a bit of time with the special features.

In some ways, I think it might actually be more interesting to discuss "Antichrist" than watch the film.

I was just watching Woody Allens "Sleeper" (which is one of my favorite comedies of all time.... Probably just behind Annie Hall) and was just wondering why we don't have any Allen films in the collection? I know there will be plenty of people who feel that his films are overrated but I personally love them (and know plenty of others do as well). Does anyone think that we might eventually see an "Annie Hall" criterion release? Or any Allen films for that matter?

Absolutely true.
And I love Lars Fon Tier and he is on of the most talented directors/minds in the world IMO.

My favorite movie of his is Dogville though.
Its superiour to Antichrist in every possible way and its also the "uniquest" movie ever made.
