My most rewatched right now:

•All That Heaven Allows
•The Killing
•On the Waterfront
•Island of Lost Souls
•Silence of the Lambs
•Lone Wolf and Cub
•Branded to Kill
•Night and the City
•House
•Eraserhead

My definite flash sale list so far:

•Three Colors Trilogy (haven't seen these since VHS!)
•One-Eyed Jacks (on a Brando kick right now)
need to narrow down some more, my wish-list is gluttonous

Hey, forum gang...little help?

A friend gifted me a subscription to the Criterion Channel. I have an all Sony rig, 4k HDR 3D TV from 2016, yadda yadda...and the Criterion Channel app not showing up when I search for it (Disney+, yes...Criterion Channel, nope -- go figure).

Don't panic. If I have to get an Amazon or Roku stick or Apple TV, fine. I just don't know what you guys would recommend. Help a man out. What's the best of those options?

Thank you very much in advance for your advice and opinions.

Best regards,

Ernest

StarDestroyer52 is correct. If it was OOP, the Criterion website would say "Out of Print" in the Purchase Options box instead of "Currently Unavailable". The latter just means they're out of stock and need to press more copies.

The channel has had a glitch on Roku devices for a while. If you stop and re-start a film later, or even fast forward, the suns go out of synch by a few seconds. It’s a known glitch their team worked on but as far as I know, there’s been no fix yet.

I would personally recommend an Apple TV. I have one and use it a lot for Criterion Channel, Kanopy, Hoopla, and other apps to supplement my physical media. I have an iPhone so it works for me in terms of also listening to podcasts, Apple Music, and using AirPlay for videos from my phone

Plus I think you get a year free of Apple TV + tv shows if you buy a new one

Ordered the Criterion blu of Holiday off Amz UK, where it was going for less than 16 quid (20$). It's a blind-buy, but a classic era Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn starrer directed by George Cukor can't be all that bad, can it?

I don’t think there’s ever a reason why Amazon changes their prices on things other than trying to move units

That's the Bezos Way. There's a reason he's worth as much as he is.

BTW, why can't this already be the 11th? I'm expecting both Roma and the steelbook of Shutter Island dammit! Time needs to move more quickly!

I keep a bunch of stuff in my cart at all times to track price movements and often Amazon competes with its own sellers for the lowest price. Doesn't look like this is the case here, though.

Interesting that the Bergman set is below half price. That's a great deal. And also that there's an Amazon seller offering a new copy of the same for $200 over the full SRP! Got to admire that optimism.

I'm not the biggest fan of Bergman, but that price is really tempting even with all the other box sets coming soon.

The set is fantastic - although I haven't fully done it justice yet. At that price, I'd recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in his work. You'll always have it, and can dip in and out at leisure.

Any ideas on which titles Criterion may be announcing this month?

Probably the 17th (maybe the 18th..) It’s a federal holiday but I’m thinking they’ll still announce

Thanks, but I was actually asking everyone's guesses about which titles Criterion will announce.

Seems about time for one of the doodled box sets, unless they are planning on spreading those out over a couple of years.

Anyways, I'm contemplating renting the others through Vudu or is it worth just grabbing the Five Films Collection on blu as blind buys? Amazon has it at $75.
How are the other 4 films rewatchability, and what are your personal rankings?
Thanks for the advice. Haven't posted in here in a long time.
A Woman Under the Influence was also my first Cassevetes, and my reaction was the same as yours. It's still my favorite, and I still think it's his best, but I entirely recommend the rest of his work to you. If you're hesitant about the box set, spring for Love Streams. It also stars Rowlands, but is probably the most singular film Cassavetes made -- in parts operatic, surreal, slapstick, etc.

If you like that one as well, then go for the rest of his work. Anything he made with Rowlands is stellar -- she's a fine actress but was never remotely as good as she was in her husband's films. The love and respect and trust they had for each other is palpable on the screen, and I think one of their greatest contributions to film. A lot of other married couples starred together, but none as humanely as those two.

I’d expect all of the boxes to at least be announced this year (meaning they’d all be released by March 2021). They may release the Agnès Varda box in May - her birthday is in May. Just a guess though. May is usually just individual releases with most boxes happening in February, July, October, and November.
