I've done eight or nine matches this morning and I'm up to 273 of 500. Word of Crota is all but useless in PvP. Thank God for void grenades, nova bombs and Truth. Those have been my savior thus far.

It took me about 12 hours of dragon strikes (5 day period) to finally land a Hopscotch. I then ran through all my weapon parts and about 60 motes and still didn't get the roll I needed. Now I need to grind dragon strikes again for engrams to get more motes/weapon parts.

I can't figure for the life of me why we can't buy weapon parts with vanguard marks just like we do with materials.

Hmmm. The Messenger is so deliciously OP for me that I can't imagine something even slightly better. It's awesome even vs. snipers with a two burst drop. Maybe a bit more range, I dont think extra stability meshes well with the headseeker perk, as you want that chest to head bounce....

Correct on the headseeker perk. You want to max stability, which if you do makes headseeker useless (and it only boosts damage ~10% on the affected shots). Relaod speed perks are good, along with hidden hand. From what I've been reading, you want:

• Outlaw / Feeding Frenzy
• Hand-Laid Stock / Braced Frame / Smallbore
• Hidden Hand

Optics also make a difference (OAS also adds aim assist):

This. Your best bet, as a 20, is to do the strikes Playlist. Viper and Wolf should be available to you. Always do the level you are and 1 or 2 levels up. The higher the level you play, the higher potential for getting light armor (blue). As you start getting this armor, you need to raise the light in it but playing with it equipped.

Your goals is purple armor (which you buy from vanguard/faction/DLC vendors or earn from raids. You won't be able to raid (vault of glass, aka VoG) until you're 26, but you max at level 30 with that IIRC.

If you get full armor here, you're max light will bring you to 32 (33 if you have exotic armormor piece maxed). You can "ascend" this armor using Etheric Light, which is earned randomly in Nightfall (another strike, but one that guarantees purple engram, exotic armor/weapon, or at least 10 strange coins, meh), by completing a level 34 or 35 (PoE)Prison of Elders (assuming you have House of Wolves DLC), or Iron Banner (one week per month, when you get to IB level 3 and 5, can buy one light at each level).

I know there is a lot of info here, and someone else can put it better than me, but for now, the Strikes Playlist is your best bet.

When you're level 24, many of the folks here would be glad to take you on your first VoG raid.

Yes, that is way to much information for me to make sense of it all. What are Raids & Strikes? I've gotten to 20 mostly playing story mission and the missions with the star in the middle. I've done the blue badge mission on Earth with two other players seemed fun. However the the two players I was playing with rushed ahead of me and I was overrun by enemies.

Last note - ran into someone with a perfect 3665 Grimoire (catdamb) and a New Monarchy ship (double cotdamb) in the Crucible yesterday. While I led my team in all stats, I just couldnt beat a guy with a 5 K/D ratio and 32 Kills + 8 captures. Jesus H. Damn all-star.

Cool, I still post at Camaro 5, I'm always more active in the summer on those forums because I actually take the Camaro out for a spin then. Always looking for a show or meetups that are local to me.

You can run Vault of Glass when you're level 23 and you can run Crota's End when you're level 27. You can be up to 3 levels less than what it is.

EDIT: you have to be at least level 24 for VoG, not 23. My bad.

I've gotten legendary engrams by running the highest level Vangaurd strikes (months ago Roc was the highest). Some of them have even turned into Exotics. The more you run them, the better chance you have at getting great stuff. It's also an easy way to build up your Vangaurd marks, which allow you to buy armor, guns, and planet materials.

I think you were right before. App lists it as a level 26 activity so 23 should be good.

Wouldn't been way easier with a good void primary.

To buy Vanguard weapons/armor, you need Vanguard rep and marks. To gain rep, you'll need to do bounties and patrol missions on various planets. To obtain marks, you'll need to run strikes from the strike playlist and/or weekly/nightfall strikes when you are high enough level (these also give you rep). You can also do public events and daily story missions for marks. Personally, farming public events seems to be the fasted method I've found for earning marks. Get the public event timer app here to help.

Marks cap at 100 per week and 200 total.

I went online and it looks like you have to be at least 24. A bit confusing because all other things in this game allows you to be 3 levels less.

Whaaaat? I did Ashley's in like 6 games with the WOC, I was expecting a grind since I haven't done it since TDB dropped, but it went faster than I could have imagined, in fact, I finished in the time it took her to go to Walmart.

Edit: then I went to the tower and dismantled VOC's for hours...what a grind that was!

The Messenger is amazing, but now I'm thinking about a Dodgeball Plymouth rock with A Max stability perk in the 2nd column, hidden hand in the 3rd, and outlaw in the first...ooooooh.

Yeah, with already high aim assist you should be able to make this thing aim itself!
