Why do a lot of people pronounce "the" as "thee" when thee already exists and has double the letter e than the has?

I'm used to dealing with douchebags at work who think they're better than me because they have money, but when it's a kid acting like a dick it really throws me for a loop. I get that parents feel a responsibility to teach their children not to talk to strangers but are they also telling them to be anti-social and only talk to their own kind?

Because there are two different meanings for the word "the" and then a completely different word, "thee". My old Dad would tell you to look it up and my day sucks so, today, I'm telling you to do the same. You should learn the difference. It will help you in life.... Okay, only a little, but every little bit helps, right?

That's exactly what they are teaching them....

I met an approximately 18 year old guy the other night who asked me what was good and what he should eat. I made the terrible mistake of saying it was all good and he's healthy and thin so he can eat whatever he wants. (I should say, this has happened before and will likely happen again.) I told him what I always tell them, I'm old so it's salad for me. I wasn't alone at the time. It wasn't inappropriate in any way. My man seconded the sentiment and said he was having salad as well. The kid looked like he genuinely believed he'd just been raped by an old lady and ran off to text people about the horror of me saying he was healthy and thin, leering back at me like I was a predator.

We laughed at him, behind his back, so that was fun, but, again, the parents you refer to actually are teaching their kids to be creeps, to hate everyone, to find everything suspicious and/or abusive. Kids today are nothing like they used to be. They often seem to be horrible people. You really shouldn't be surprised.

Hey, remember when a young person told me I'm not autistic enough and I'm evil/bad because I've spent a lifetime studying and improving myself and learning? That's right, he was mad at me for learning to emote, to write, to seem somewhat normal, and, worse, he was mad at me for openly encouraging other autistics to never give up or see themselves as victims. Remember that? I remember that. That wasn't the first time that's happened, but it never happened before Twitter existed, not even once. Kids used to find my autistic experience inspiring. Now I'm accused of trying to diminish other peoples' victim-hood by encouraging them, because encouragement is now considered bullying.

Parents are teaching their kids a lot more than to hate everything and be suspicious. Giving up and hating people who haven't is also on that list....

A good buddy of mine who is also a co-worker asked his wife and 8-year-old daughter to meet him in the lobby where I'm stationed. I know the family fairly well since the wife used to work in the building. The wife is very sweet and friendly and so is the tyke. Or at least she used to be. The wife had to practically force the child to say hello. She did but it was so fake that I couldn't help but frown. And she's only 8! They get more douchebag-y the older they get. I guess to a child, a middle-aged person who isn't a relative is like a space alien to be avoided at all costs lol

they talked about this (rather humorously, i might add) on the local talk radio station, yesterday.

What is it about this forum where you can come into a thread (doesn't matter the subject) and make a statement full of facts and citations and there's always somebody who will come in and argue against it using their opinions? Facts are correct, opinions usually aren't. It's like people can't just say "you know what, you know more than me and I'm wrong."

Wait a second. Are you saying that the other reported experience, of a local franchise of a chicken-chain running out of a chicken sandwich, was an occurrence at the regional or national level?

We have KFC here and they've never run out of chicken, ever. Neither has the grocery store rotisserie section, in either place where we reside.

How does that even happen?

It's probably all a marketing ploy. If word gets out that they are "out" of a sandwich, it just increases demand and will either force people to frequent their establishment more or when word is released that they have more sandwiches, make people more inclined to go.

That's just wrong and disgusting. Still, I'm glad I saw it. Nice to know I'm the kind of person who gives a leftover chicken sandwich to a friend, instead of selling it on ebay for $1,000.

Wondering how I’m going to be ready to close a store by myself next Thursday when I’m only closing two more time with another lead and the assistant before then. Not to mention having Sunday-Tuesday off. So I close with the assistant manager on Saturday and the other lead on Wednesday. This feels particularly rushed, especially when we seem to have a problem with people calling out

Santa Claus that crap. Make a list, check it twice. Write it again, in private, at home, to help you memorize it, then keep a copy with you on Thursday. Also, if there is a register involved, tally it three times. A little yellow notepad is a heck of a lot more useful than a cell phone notepad. When you've finished, eat a cookie.
