Thanks to all the people who hasn't post the trailers from CriterionCast, to keep the releases a surprise. CriterionCast ruins everything.

Walked into FutureShop in Dartmouth today, and walked out with this:

$$26.99 each! Even Black Orpheus rang up as $26.99 even though it's not supposed to be on sale.

You lucky, trying to find a Criterion movie in a Montreal's Future Shop is quite an adventure at times

$26.99? With taxes & depending how much you pick up, could work out to $30 per movie which is still a lot for me. With this BN sale, with total shipping to Canada it works out to $24 per movie (I got 11).

I wonder if the packaging being backwards was also intentional or just a mistake. My disc was on the left side and insert was in the right side. I suppose I could flip the cover around since there is no big blu-banner on the Criterion cases, but was anyone else's case like that?

I'm sorry that you think we ruin everything. I don't have any knowledge whether the trailers we post will be announced on Monday. I just put up a blog post, listing my reasons for thinking that this trailer has re-release potential.

I'm not trying to spoil the new release announcement days, I'm just trying to get some speculation and excitement up around older titles.

No, I just posted those two. Again, I don't know if these are going to be announced tomorrow. I know we've been lucky in the past, but I don't have any insider info on these February releases. I hope I'm right, of course.

I'm posting rumors and speculation, because I just can't get enough of this stuff. I read through this thread regularly, as well as the Criterion Forum's rumor threads.

I apologize if I'm ruining anyone's fun, posting these rumor round-ups. I just like peeking inside my presents, when I can (or at least doing as much detective work, to figure out what they might be).

that's a tough one.
all are amazing releases.
Both Lang and Godard are 2 of my favorite directors, and you're talking about 2 of their most seminal films so that's like choosing between a gold necklace with rubies or a silver bracelet with diamonds.

Go with M. It's an oldie, and it's just the beginning of the crime genre in film. Haven't seen Kagemusha, and to me, M is better than Breathless.

Hm. So a Fritz Lang, AK, and a J-LG -- you aren't making this easy! But I say M. Probably the most "important" and influential of the three. Truly an achievement in film. Lorre's performance is haunting.

M is often seen as the birth of the modern crime film, while Breathless is often called simply the birth of modern film period.
the influence of both films is staggering.
so certainly no wrong choices between those two.

Would you rather be disappointed now, CG, or wait 'til tomorrow for your feelings to surface?

For those that are "on the fence" about the BBS set...three of the seven films are streamable via NetFlix streaming.

Five Easy Pieces
The Last Picture Show
The King of Marvin Gardens

Considering that all of those have been $36.99 or more since they came out, it's a good enough deal for me. FutureShop's been selling out of Criterions all over the place, so I'm hopeful this will make them realize there's a market and they will start to get more of them in.
