He is in Episode 3 on the bridge with the Emperor and Vader at the end of the movie

Edit: Goldenrod beat me to it

Why would anyone want AT thrown into one of these films? I mean the Zhan books were "ok" but really people?

I like the Thrawn trilogy, but the PT completely destroyed Zahn's writing.

I was never sure that guy sorta looked like him but he also looked like everyone else on the bridge, was Tarkin a clone then?

He actually looked a lot like a young Peter Cushing. I caught it the very first time around.

Not that I'm aware of. According to Lucas, he wanted to use old footage of Peter Cushing for a few moments in "Sith", but ultimately deemed the scenes unusable. Instead, actor Wayne Pygram was cast as a younger Tarkin, and wore additional makeup to increase his already present resemblance to Cushing.

They must have been REALLY unusable ... don't get me wrong, I love the PT but some of the scenes I would have deemed unusable ... Just seems the FX didn't come off that great in a lot of shots and they made the cut.

They originally cast Christopher Eccleston as Tarkin and did some make-up tests. personally i think Christopher looks more like Tarkin than the make up they did for Wayne.

Christopher:

Tarkin:

Wayne:

I wonder if they will ever show these make-up tests in the mini docs on the Blu_rays?

I recognized Tarkin the first time I saw Episode III, don't know how any Star Wars fan would miss that.

28 days to go!

Yeah there are subtle hints throught the PT. He made the statment in an interview sometime after rots came out. The interviewer asked if he had any plans of turning the EU material into movies. He said he viewed the eu stories were there own entity and he wanted to keep them seperate. I think it comes down to the fact that he wants the saga to be his baby and the EU is more so the authors baby. I can understand his desire to leave glaring EU hints out. After all, the hints in the PT are cameos at best and require knowledge of the EU to pick up on.

I never got into the EU, i always knew it never really "fit" in with the Saga so i think that's why i never bothered.

Sweden The Great Zahn...and Han Solo's demise?

I think most of us would agree the novels by Timothy Zahn are amazing. I understand also that we want to have as few changes as possible to the 'originals', but seeing as Lucas constantly tinkers with them anyway, I would not find it strange to have a cameo by Thrawn. His popularity is immense. Like Adywan said, Aurra is in there after all. Personally I'd find it super cool to have Thrawn in there towards the end, if only to disturb the little 'too jolly mood' with the ewoks etc. It always, to me anyway, felt a bit naive. Also imagine this - if Harrison Ford would have gotten his wish through - that Han Solo be killed off in the last chapter. That would make for some compelling drama too in the last act. I remember hearing Lawrence Kasdan speaking about this - he strongly felt someone had to go, and early on in Jedi so to make us worry for all the principals. Don't get me wrong though, Han Solo is one of the major characters that made the originals work so incredibly well. I am just saying it'd be most dark and enticing...

For the love of all that is holy can you all use the spoiler tag when quoting the post with the content of the discs please. We have a zillion posts with that long arse quote and it really makes reading the thread a nightmare.

Harrison Ford also felt Solo needed to die. But it would have been a mistake, as that would leave the character of Leia without a satisfying ending to the series (remember Star wars was advertised to be about- A boy, a girl and a galaxy..., so not all about just Luke). The ending of Jedi is perfect, and I think too many get caught up in wanting a slightly darker ending (a product of more recent filmmaking and would have been out of place in a 1980s film series). It also tied into the redemption of the Solo character (which you can argue is slightly tranished by the Greedo scene) as he goes from a rather cold/rogueish character without belief to a hero who believes in the force. Faith restored. Character does a 180 from where he started and Leia is a big part of that.

As for Thrawn? While a good character he should stay in the EU where he belongs. A short cameo in the background on the Death Star would be fine, but anything else would be a "WTF?" moment for most common fans (by that I mean the 80% of people buying these films on blu ray, the people who do not read the EU books or care). Besides, as much as I like Thrawn it always bothered me that he was blue. In the original trilogy, I always thought the Empire was racist (I mean, look at the snow trooper suits, the Moffs all had Nazi like qaulities to them and the very telling line of "Bounty Hunters we don't need their scum..." Also, the rebels had mixed ethnicities battling against a 'white empire'). I thought the character was a bit out of place, but I am getting off topic.

Anyway, the blu ray special features look pretty darned good! WOOO!

i agree that it would be sweet as it promises that there are more adventures out there (even to a general audience) but not everyone will understand it the same way. i think there are a lot of things that they could do to tie the expanded universe into the movies but i think they need to be subtle things that only a fan of the expanded universe would catch - maybe have someone walking in the background (as long as they don't do that "hey, look at me" hand wave), a ship, etc. they just can't take over the scene because in the end, they are not that important to the movie. pretty long-winded answer considering you agreed with me

Preference is fine, but this entire conversation about the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy has highjacked every online Star Wars conversation since '97, and it's just tiring.

As I've always said, it's not like the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy are NOT available.

You can get them.

who is talking theatrical cuts? I don't see anyone doing that (except by you), we are talking about the current BD release and if he went cheapo on the public with these BD's. And please let's not go into all that "you can get them" garbage again...that leads to the dark side.

There will never be 3D BD sets of these films because:

1. 3D is a fad and is currently dying
2. After Episode 1 tanks at the Box Office they will not release the others.

I am sure there will be another HD set someday as Lucas thinks he is Disney and can milk a set every five to ten years.

Re-releasing films is not uncommon, if it was, there probably wouldn't be any need for any home media formats at all. And with a multibillion dollar franchise like Star Wars, I'd do the same.
