You have to consider different types of people. Some people watch Avengers with some of the craziest action scenes Ive ever witnessed and view that as quality action, then you watch these 3 Batman movies and the action is extremely toned down, which is of course on purpose.

One of the big action scenes in the middle of TDK was pretty much just the Joker shooting some guns, a SWAT van gets pushed into the water, Batman rides a bike and shoots some cannons and a truck gets flipped, which we've seen in a million movies before. Nothing really breathtaking or anything that had me on the edge of my seat, although I still think it was well done with minimal amount of CG work. Not easy to pull off Im sure.

Its more of a throwback to just simpler action scenes from long ago before CG came around. Some people view Nolans style as classy, no overused digital effects, and some view it as laziness or boring. No wrong opinions, just people look at it differently.

Even just in my own family, I prefer simpler practical action over CG fests, but my stepdad who is a big time comic book fan finds these Nolan movies visually dull, but absolutely loves Avengers, Iron Man, stuff like that. Just different tastes. And of course whenever we talk about it, friendly arguing, he brings up Avengers making a lot more money and says it must be more exciting if more people wanted to see it. At that point I just change the subject, lol.

agree jajaja, i said this before its all opinion, maybe people dont find exciting the batman action scenes but that doesnt make them bad, i personally think they are good but not great of course, as for my taste on CG it works depending of its use and quality, for example avengers was really breathtaking that was a good use of CGI a bad one would be Neo vs the agent Smith army.

And here I'm a fan of both filmmakers.

My mistake, I guess only one can "win" movies.

I am a fan of both also, it is just funny and a bit sad that if you dislike anything to do with the Dark Knight films and you write about it online it brings out the crazies. Also perhaps if Nathan Fillion had played Batman he wouldn't have used that stupid voice.

Also this belongs in the movie Dark Knight Rises thread and not in here about the BD release so I apologize.

imo the action in the batman trilogy is worlds better than in the avengers. in the batman trilogy 90% of the action is real (practical effects). also the action is not just a meaningless cgi romp in the last 30 minutes that couldve ended at any time.

Dont get me wrong i like the avengers. But to me its greatness comes from the way it actually achieved having multiple superheroes in one movie. It is truly spectacular watching iron man, cap, thor, and hulk work together. The action in The Avengers is at the same level as transformers imo.

Nolan's aversion to CGI definitely contributes to his movies lacking in the action department compared to other directors...Nolan prefers to use practical effects over anything computer generated which makes it look a bit dull compared to others who use green screen and heavy CGI

you consider that a bad use of CGI??

I thought Matrix Reloaded was stunning in terms of action and CGI...the extended highway chase scene is one of the best action scenes I've ever seen

Can't decide if I want to spend the extra five bucks and get the trilogy set or just get Rises by itself. I'll probably go with the trilogy, then I could put it with my box sets (and I won't have a "D" movie after a "B" movie on my shelf and it won't look out-of-alphabetical-order ) plus I'll get the little booklet.

Also I got the Batman Begins and Dark Knight Blu-rays for pretty cheap so I won't feel like I wasted money.

Jeez, I swear I thought this was up for preorder about a week ago. Can anyone confirm this was already up for preorder, and then taken down, possibly due to being sold out? Or maybe my memory is weak.

Hasn't been available to preorder yet. Still has 'coming soon' listed for it, so I am guessing they won't have it up until about 1 month before release (like the Spidy Steelbook).

Just watched the blu trailer for this on the Dark shadows Blu ray, and it looks really good. I seriously have problems with BB transfer and the processed look of TDK Blu ray, but this looks like a winner from those clips. I was starting to get worried that they would mess this up.

I'm in the same boat as you. I got Batman Begins for $5 and The Dark Knight for $10 on Black Friday 2 years ago, so I don't mind double dipping and getting the trilogy box set. For me it's worth it because I just love this franchise. And if the ultimate collectors edition that comes out next year appeals to me, I may even consider getting that too.

I'm still trying to figure out whether I'm also going to spring for the trilogy set now and call it a franchise or wait until the Ultimate Collector's Edition next year.

Is the extra hour or so of supplement material worth waiting another 8 to 10 months to finally have this trilogy on BD?

Still haven't decided yet...

Ill buy the Cowl Ed cuz its Limited/numbered, so if the Ultimate Ed is so cool, I wont feel bad about having the Cowl.

As of the upcoming trilogy, Ill just pass knowing I am interested with the Ultimate Ed anyway.
