I don't succeed in the competitive FPS environment, either, but I have not considered it to be solely a problem with my reaction time, though at 45, my reaction certainly will not match someone who is 20. I think the main reason is that there a lot of gamers who spend enough time playing to know how to use the maps, weapon loadouts, powers/skills, etc. to their advantage. If you invest the time (which is easy if you really enjoy it) you probably have more success. I just don't get into it that much for that long. I'd rather play more games instead of getting really good at a few games. And the older I get, the less patience I have for gaming activities that are not completely enjoyable, such as for trophies.

Great point. But there are differences in the way different games are sped up/slowed down in terms of how fast people can kill someone.

How far can you go if you play online solo? Or should I say are any of you just going to play without joining a clan? Probably a dumb question but then again I don't know much about the game.

I'll delve into the crucible a little bit. But to me it will br mainly the campaign and the co-op missions. I had some fun in the crucible but I felt bad because I kept getting killed. Like so many abive I'm not the most coordinated or fast. That may change with more practice, who knows.

I dud join Saravens because raids and strike will require co-op. I did one co-op once (my second try at Devil's Lair misdion) and the two others that were with me split as and left me in my own. They were matched up with me. I believe three members of a clan can jump into a mission like that.

Kind of like me. I do ok in FPS games still (hitting my 40s), but I just really, really don't want to put in the effort these days. Like you, I'm just trying to enjoy stuff, get some trophies, etc. I can't be bothered with learning maps, map tricks, etc.

I only played about 40 min in alpha, so I really don't know what to expect. All I'm interested in is single player and team-based non-pvp stuff, like a raid or whatever.

I'll be 50 this month and trying to compete with some 13 year old with fast reflexes just ain't my thing. I did have some fun with PVP but I was just getting killed a lot.

Even if I'll probably try it a bit, the pvp is definitely not why i'm getting Destiny.
I very much look forward to the story mode and all the coop modes (explore, strikes and even raids down the line) which for this game do not feel like they are afterthoughts like is seemingly the case for most modern big FPSs these days.

Not sure if it's already been posted, but here's where you can check your custom spec for your guardian

My Limited Edition has shipped! It left some city in Indiana a few hours ago, so amazon says it should arrive on my doorstep Tuesday 8pm. A bit later than I wanted, but I've waited this long, so what's another 44 hours...

I just checked my order status from Bestbuy and it is saying "Status not available" and my card hasn't been charged yet. Hopefully it will show up tomorrow.

I actually thought about going to a midnight release tonight and trying to get a LE (some swag) and then returning my online order when it showed up. Wonder what my chances of getting one will be?

Just remember, age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.

Pro Tips:
Crouching will greatly reduce your radar signal. So sneaking around the map will help, even on large maps, like the Moon, has an interior space that you can move from A to C with little fear of some tank patrolling snot nose yut even seeing you.

Learn where the heavy ammo spawns, to either grab it, because heavy weapons kill extremely fast or to use it as bait to get some kills. Also with any ammo drops, special/heavy, any team mates within a certain radius of it, when you grab it, they will also get it.

Destiny doesn't rely on as much twitch based reactions say as COD which runs at 60fps. This seems a bit more of a relaxed pace.

I actually don't think that makes it inferior, and i'm sure with proper tactics, team work and whatnot, a band of 'oldies' would cream a team of young randomers.

But not maybe young organised fireteam members

Anyhow, I look forwards to taking on a full raid with everybody and playing some Crucible

One thing that just doesn't sit right with me is why Bungie hasn't turned on their servers 4 or 5 days ago to allow sites to review it. Not that i'm worried the game will bomb or anything, but I'd like to get a better gauge on enemy variety, locations, game length, full weapon/upgrades, etc.

I get the eerie vibe that it might be really fun for the first 15 hours, but gets stale pretty quickly. I've seen beta reviews where people have griped about repetitive and predictive enemy spawns in the same few places, lack of any type of cohesive story (Bungie promises an epic story but from what's been shown who knows).

I just feel they purposely didn't activate the servers so that reviews would not be ready until a week or so after release. Those tactics reek of ulterior motives.

Btw, I personally haven't played the alpha or beta, but have just been turned off by the mp confusion floating around. A proper review would clear that up. I'll wait a week or so and see what the consensus is.

That time estimate is not completely accurate. The time estimate is the same for all orders. 95% chance it will be there before 8.

Part of the repetitive nature of the beta was playing the same levels over and over. Plus, your level cap was 20, thus only allowing you a small portion of weapon upgrades and add ons. By all accounts, Bungie said they've improved on the beta. I imagine the sheer following of this game will keep it fresh for a while.

Don't you mean the level cap was 8 in the Beta?

Yup, it was only a level 8 cap, and a lot of sections were blocked off, so exploration was limited.

Even though the cap was so low, and not that much to explore, people really seemed to get a lot out of the beta, so I am hoping the full game to have quite a bit of content.

Sheer following isn't what keeps a game fresh to me. Content does. This game will live or die by content. I really hope they're not hanging their longevity on PvP.
