![]() I get so tired of the "well it wasn't designed to be an all in one machine" cop out from people. Newsflash, it IS an all in one machine! However the X1 is kicking the PS4's ass nine ways to Sunday in this area and it pisses me off that Sony doesn't seem to care! USB tuner and DVR Support for 1080p??? Hell I'd be happy if Sony would just update the damn flash player support for their browser!!! |

Power modes and TEE required which AMD provides with a ARM SoC inside the APU. Sony had to move this ARM block to the PS4 Southbridge so they could use GDDR5 with the APU. TEE = All commercial media enters the PS4 Southbridge codec compressed and encrypted and leaves the PS4 southbridge as a uncompressed HDCP 1 or 2.2 encrypted stream to the HDMI port. All "Playing of media" and video buffer with overlay takes place in the PS4 Southbridge with 256MB of memory. The APU can be turned off putting GDDR5 into self refresh and full screen video can continue to play. This includes 4K blu-ray with digital bridge and Vidipath which use the same HTML5 <video> MSE and TEE DRM that the coming in 2016 replacement for the cable card can use. Hub = Client and Server (with second screen, Miracast and DLNA support), home streaming of games and Media from all it's sources: Antenna TV, Cable TV, OTT, BLu-ray; anytime = DVR and sideloading; and anywhere = Vidipath in home streaming with DTCP (Wmdrm10 for 1080i and lower and Playready ND 1080P and higher) and with DTCP+ (coming) possibly outside the home. Games came first because they require no DRM beyond protecting the source/Disk or HD image and can be streamed without DRM. 2016+ media features will change the customer mix to more casual which is why the latest PS4 firmware has Parental controls and sub accounts for children. Downside is UHD Blu-ray requires an on-line connection to unlock a disk and Playready ND requires a internet connection once every 48 hours. Last edited by jeff_rigby; 10-08-2015 at 01:03 PM. |

You guys are in advance of the US for some of the coming features supported by the Game Consoles. Your HbbTV 2.0 is similar to what's coming in the ATSC 2.0 Media Hub model and it's supported by Vidipath Smart TVs and Game Consoles which are designed to support Vidipath.
Mini-games can be interleaved with video and played during commercials (Sony has a patent for this). That Microsoft has announced a DVR that supports 1080P means ATSC 2.0 is on track and will likely be supported by FREE Antenna TV channels sometime 2016. This gives us the blu-ray codec on sub channels allowing twice as many channels and/or 1080P, S3D, NRT (Non Realtime Transmission) and XTV (browser pullup during programming and WebGL mini-games). Required are Smart TVs with browser and Playready or Vidipath STB with network or USB tuner, PS3, PS4 and XB1 included. If you don't have a Vidipath Smart TV then you will need the STB or Game Console to view it. For Cable TV the same since the new OTA content/features passes through to Cable. Rent a more expensive Cable TV box or buy your own...If you already have a PS4, XB1 or PS3 you just need a USB or Network Tuner, a firmware update and likely an APP from your Cable Company. It looks like this CES Jan 2016 will have accessories for the coming Vidipath ecosystem. All the feature announcements since 2010 will be coming on line soon as it's all related and is why there are going to be 15 platforms announced as game consoles by Jan 2016. Second screen Miracast and DLNA will be big as well as the 12 or so TV second screen features. Intel has a paper on some of the non-TV second screen uses: one is gaming related. Quote:

3.0 hasn't been nearly as stable for me. With the one right before it, the PS4 shut down properly most of time and the store was actually working really well for the first time. Now I'm probably getting 3 beeps when shutting down 80-90% of the time (I'm actually shocked when it shuts down properly) and the store is back to usually requiring a reboot to get it to load.

I think the update is a little stubborn if the system is doing multipule things at once like downloading files, updates, running apps etc & then trying to enter rest mode or turn off. |

But, yeah, every morning now, I start up, it shuts down, I have to power on with the button, it scans files and reboots, then all is okay for the rest of the day. Used to have this happen a lot, if I shut the display off, before the PS4 is completely shut down, but it's not that this time. |
