Ditto, I am not a huge fan of them either. Give me a sturdy slipbox and bd cases and I'm happy. Well as happy as one could be paying Aniplex prices.

Are you a chipboard kinda guy? I like the cardboard boxes for Tsukimonogatari (*insert similar boxes). Of course, it's arguable that chipboards are superior because they don't wear down as fast and are sturdier. But I honestly don't care if it's either chipboard or light cardboard. However, screw the older Aniplex cardboard sets (Hanamonogatari, Nisekoi S1, etc) because those things are finger print heavy. As soon as I lay my hands on them, poof, fingerprints, and my hands aren't even oily...or at least I'm assuming.

Any other AoA predictions? You may turn out to be correct with those also! *please say FMA Brotherhood will be released in 5 LE box sets* lol.

Seriously don't understand why people are anxious for Aniplex to re-release FMA Brotherhood. Did u somehow miss it in the years it was cheap and easy to find. The blu-rays looked pretty solid considering.

They'll release FMA:B just like they did with Rurouni Kenshin.

Did I say I don't own the series? I have Manga UK's collections 1 and 2 blu-ray releases. I just want it in Aniplex LE style packaging as I'd be happy to double dip, that's all. Who's anxious? Not me. If it happens it happens, if not then oh well, can't have everything.

If I were to guess, Aniplex might do a limited run, potentially discarding any standard editions, assuming FMAB is also dubbed on Crunchyroll. I don't know how the rights work for that. They might do it YLIA or FateZero style, so five sets. Releasing FMAB is going to happen, 99%. As someone who is trying to learn business, and has paid attention to trends, it would be foolish for Aniplex to not release FMAB. It doesn't matter if it was on the market for years. It's Fullmetal Alchemist.

My other prediction is SAO reprint season 1 next year. Just basing it on the Fate reprints and SAO being one of Aniplex's best sellers.

As for knowing Erased would be a digipack (When it first showed up on Righstuf), I paid attention to the price tag. $90? I think Naiera said something like "That's a new high for Aniplex", which it is. My assumption was either a digipack or the special manga. One of those two were the reasons the price went up. They also never listed "clear blu-ray cases" for the item description.

If I want to get really ballsy, I could predict a new Nisemonogatari boxset. After the existing one goes out of print, expect a new release within 6-12 months. Aka this one: http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d202249918 It's the same style as Bakemonogatari. The Japanese set didn't exist until after Aniplex's American version.

Considering how Aniplex is now re-dipping into digipacks, I'm expecting the new Kizumonogatari movie to also include a digipack. It'll probably look nearly identical to Japans. Of course, this is just basing it on Erased alone. Additionally, I'm positive the Monogatari series is AoA's best sub-only release series. Bakemonogatari blu-ray set has had 2-3 runs and Nekomonogatari and Otorimonogatari got reprints. This series sells well, for being sub-only. That's why I think Kizumonogatari will be getting a digipack. On the other hand, it may not, because AoA will be testing the waters regarding Erased's digipacks. Kizumonogatari will probably release late late this year or early next year, so the timing may actually screw Kizumonogatari.

If they post a poll on twitter saying "Do you like digipacks or amaray/blu-ray cases", then please vote for digipack. Or heck, you know those mail in cards you get with every AoA release? If you want digipacks, then tell them. All you have to do is get some stamps.

I would vote no digi-pak. I would want the monogatari series to stay at least somewhat consistent.

I'd fill out those mail cards and send them but I'm in the UK so postage just for that would be a bit much. I'd rather send an e-mail re digipacks. i do hope we get an SAO Season 1 LE reprints, especially with that SAO movie project coming next year.

I wouldn't be entirely sure on them releasing FMA:B, despite how foolish it would be not to. Rurouni Kenshin has somewhat similar popularity, and it still sells rather well on say eBay. It's also their fourth highest streaming title of all-time on Hulu (Set it to all-time) despite it being the Sony dub that most people hate (CR and Netflix have the Media Blasters dub), and still ranks decent on CR's popularity rankings. Yet, despite all of this, they continue to do nothing but stream it (and they aren't streaming episode 95, which was a VHS-only episode in Japan initially, which MB did get).

The only times AoA has gotten catalog titles has been when a Blu-ray Box is about to hit, or just recently hit for something that was previously DVD-only. This is EXACTLY how things were with Gurren Lagann, the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs and movie (which were import-only), and Read or Die (the Blu-ray Box hit about a year before AoA's release). Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has already hit Blu-ray in Japan, though it has no Blu-ray Box, and who knows if that will happen. Not to mention the show has been OOP in Japan for years. Maybe before the live-action movie from Warner Bros. Japan hits for promotion purposes they'll do a Blu-ray Box, but given they didn't do Blu-ray Boxes for Rurouni Kenshin when the rather successful live-action Rurouni Kenshin movies hit, I doubt it.

They have gotten some catalog titles for streaming, but that was mainly for titles that were already on CR, with the listed publisher switching from NISA to Aniplex. The other cases of them getting catalog titles for streaming has been a bit more random (Ex: Star Driver, Ghost Slayers Ayashi).

As for the rights with the dub, Aniplex has always held the rights to the dub for FMA:B. Whenever a company makes an English dub, it immediately becomes property of the JP license holder to make rights situations simpler, as there can be complications with the R1 licensor going under, and rescue situations. The R1 licensor used to be the one to handle the dub rights initially, but again, that causes more headaches.

Why would Aniplex have ever sold licensing rights to sell FMA:B if they were going to release it themselves at a later time?

It's not like they've got a crystal ball that sees 8-10 years into the future that goes "No don't do that the future sees a 2019 US BD release y'all gotta get working on"

Yes, I do much prefer chipboard over cardboard slipboxes, but then I also prefer cardboard slipboxes 100 times more so than o-card slipcovers, which I think are the most idiotic invention of the 20th century, with those exposed-cut edges that mushroom so easily. My most desired package configuration would be a G1-height chipbox with a digipak inside, to match the majority of Japanese releases in my collection...

FMA:B hit in early 2009, AoA didn't release the Gurren Lagann movies until over a year later. Aniplex was just started to get interested in having their US subsidiary (which was established in 2005 actually) get into discs. At the time they were still fine with sublicensing their titles to FUNimation, Sentai, and others. After seeing how things worked for them, eventually they completely stopped allowing others to get their stuff except AoA.

Which especially hurts if you care about catalog titles or newer titles they pass on (Ex: Dog Days, Mushishi S2-S3 + movie). AoA does not grab catalog titles except for what I mentioned earlier (DVD-only titles getting BDs in Japan for the first time), and if something goes OOP, its chances of coming back are next to zero.

If they grabbed more catalog titles, I'd actually have more interest in their catalog as for years now I generally don't like Aniplex-produced series, or enough to bother wanting to buy them (the price is not a factor in those decisions).

eh, I'm not sad at all - I have both the 5 Funi slipbox releases and the two slipcover releases of FMA:B on Blu-ray, so if AoA ever does decide to release a set themselves in the next 10 years, I'll buy those in a heartbeat and sell off both of my Funi sets...

I also own the Funi CE release for the original FMA series, and I have the Anime Limited Collector's Resin Gate set on pre-order, so I'm good with that series for quite some time into the future as well...

Man I am so glad I started catching up on this thread started reading at page 90 and saw that Fate/Zero is being reprinted so I placed my order in! Yay!

Fate/Stay Night Vol 1 and 2 arrived in the mail a couple of weeks ago when it went on sale in Amazon for $9.97.

Next up Erased.

Cheers,
CC-

EDIT: I don't know what just went over me. Perhaps purchasing the 2 Fate/Zero's opened a flood gate and I just ordered Erased S1/2 as well as Gurren Lagann S1-5! Shiate just got real!

Thats funny. I literally just cancelled my pre-order for Erased 1/2 to order Plastic Memories and Wagnaria Season 3.
