On which, my point was that the licensor in Japan may not accept a low offer on Eva TV for international rights, thus why Netflix got it for worldwide streaming- they have the money to pay for it. Perhaps the price in Germany would be lower than, say, North America, due to the smaller market, but I don't think the difference would be as big as you're thinking considering the value of the IP in Japan, thus making its price, even in a smaller market, most likely higher than the average series. Again, if you or anyone who has factual evidence can prove me or Dandy incorrect, I'd love to hear it. I'm not trying to destroy you or your opinion, I'm stating my viewpoint in how I interpret the situation (with less frustration today than last night, for which I do apologize for such damning diction). Yup, at the end of the day these "artificially high" prices exist because Anime fans are barmy enough to pay it, and when a few of these Ultra Editions bomb we'll probably see a change in their release policy, but given the prevalance of them already I don't think they are bombing, so why shouldn't Anime Ltd. and the likes go for it? They're running a business at the end of the day.

It's still a huge property. But that's brand name recognition more than anything. |

I was recently speaking with one of the workers at my local Hot Topic and he said they can't keep the Eva shirts in stock at that location. So, Eva merch definitely sells well and there is demand for the series. I can't see a DVD/Blu-ray release not selling very well over here. |

![]() No doubt the Blu-rays would sell like hotcakes. The show is in extreme fad mode right now and discs haven't been available for years. |

I think that My Hero Academia is a show that is analogous to NGE from a merchandising perspective. It's kind of bigger than it is. All sorts of gear from t-shirts, to keychains, to high-end figures are available for it everywhere. I like MHA quite a bit. The show is very good. But I don't think that it's of inherently higher quality than several other similarly branded shows or properties. It just happens to be one of those name brands (that made it bigtime).

I mean, I don't think the fallout will be near as bad as it was back in 96 when disgruntled fans defaced and vandalized the studio walls on their building if indeed this new one does underwhelm, but we'll see.

Look on the "bright" side: last time that happened we got End of Evangelion out of it, and people seem to really like that one.

I mainly don't like how they swapped Toji's big moment with Asuka. I think I like the first one so much because it follows the original anime so closely. When things start to get changed around is what I'm not a fan of, but I guess that would be the entire point of these films. |

But with that said, 1.0 was extremely excellent. To be honest, I always enjoyed the episodes in the original before Asuka joined, so the first movie was absolutely on-point when condensed as it was. The action, drama, animation, and soundtrack were all on-point. With fans of the original series, I couldn't see any reason why they would dislike 1.0. It is pretty true to the source without much deviation and actually is coherent. ![]() I doubt 4.0 can turn it around. I think we would be awfully naïve at this point to think Anno is going to give fans what they want (or even a fifth of what they expect). [/opinion] |

One of my problems with the Rebuild films is how they changed Asuka's character and because of that I don't think I'll ever be fully on board with them. I'd much rather have gotten sequel movies, rather than these retold versions with tons of alterations. The updated animation is incredible but everything else is meh, especially Mari. |
