I also use Amazon for Kino and WAC releases... unless Kino is having one of their countless sales... and I want enough to justify the free shipping tier...

But indie labels... boutiques are the way to go.
100% agree with this. What I've noticed is that some 4k UHD big studio titles that go on flash sale from Amazon will come with a scratch, or scuffed up case and/or slipcover (if lucky enough to receive one). I've had this happen recently with Tar (slipcover) and then Ad Astra. I go through the exchange headache so in the end it usually works out. But it's a dice roll. I accept the odds.

Almost never order Criterion outside of direct or B&N.

KL almost exclusively direct.

I support where I can. But like most here I buy from all over the place. Amazon. Diabolik. Criterion. Best Buy. Ebay. Small local record stores/bookstores. etc. etc.

Keep in mind when they were with VinSyn like for I think their final OCN - Vin Syn Partner title, they don’t have hard street dates since they get out Sub orders etc and try to get them out as fast as possible. That’s why I didn’t see the big deal with Party Girl getting out copies early. To me its usually always good wors of mouth Unless it would contain errors (which I don’t expect from FCE)

I agree 100%...

Someone said earlier... I think Animatic... that maybe it's pressure from MVD... who knows...

I think the guy from Orbit hit it on the head... jah just might be trying to play it safe since this is the first non-OCN release...

Hopefully things loosen up going forward.

Micro-management from labels is not a great look... especially toward small, indie boutique retailers.

Now... I do want to mention something positive...

Last night I threw in my copy of Party Girl...

And FCE has done it again! What a great release!

PQ/SQ is fantastic as always... the disc comes with a nice Party Girl booklet inside...

The Parker Posey interview is awesome... she's such treasure!

The slip is one of FCE's best... as nice as the OCN ones... it's even embossed.

I can't recommend this release highly enough!

Now I can't wait to get Breathless...

Yeah, I don't know. I'd still rather wait a few extra days and get a nice copy if places like Bullmoose, Diabolik, etc have to wait until street date than having to deal with the hassle of sending damaged stuff back to amazon. A wise man once said "The problem with instant gratification is it takes too long."

It's definitely preferable to always order from a boutique.

Unless it's Criterion or Shout...

I would probably just order from Amazon for the next release. I got 3 kids ...if I can save $5+ that's just what I do. It was $6 more for me to preorder from OrbitDVD, but then also I still will try to support them and DiabolikDVD, but then again blowitoutahere on ebay has kinda become my guy with the nearly constant 15% off and gets the imports too. It's good to have options, but I digress...now stop *****ing!

Party Girl really charmed me, I think quirky narcissism must be my thing. The extras broadened my appreciation as well with the interviews. Its a really good one and the slip quality is proper!

The slipcover version of Breathless is available at Diabolik for anyone that missed it at Vinegar Syndrome.

Received my copy of Party Girl from Amazon today. Small bit of constructive criticism, don't shrinkwrap the releases, it crushes the corners of the slip, which is the main draw to order sooner/the limited edition.

Perhaps more to due to poor Amazon packaging? I received it from Bullmoose yesterday, and the Slip had perfect corners under the shrinkwrap.

Usually I'd agree, as Amazon's packaging is the worst, but this was from the shrink being too tight and crimping the corners inward. Could be mine was just an unlucky one-off.

So far none of the smaller Canadian movie companies have received copies of Party Girl. I spoke with one sales rep yesterday who said they put an order in and have yet to receive anything.

Disappointing to say the least and poor form on the part of MVD. The only company in Canada stocking it is amazon.ca and they're charging a lot for it $50-ish w/ tax. Might as well import it at that price.

It is backordered at Unobstructed if you want to place an order there. It's much cheaper than Amazon

Yes - and I’ve had it preordered with UV as soon as their listing went up earlier this month. My complaint is with MVD is late with delivering the copies to stores up here. A number of us rather try and support the local companies here first before we go and import.

Par for the course sadly with MVD. They murder their own brand slipcovers in the same way.

If you order from a boutique (OrbitDVD & Diabolik to name a couple) you won't have to deal with damaged items in transit due to poor packaging because it will ship in a proper box.

Sometimes saving a few bucks just ain't worth it...

Plus... my copy that arrived from a boutique shop did not have a shrink wrap over the slip... so...

Sometimes, yes. Bullmoose did ship it in a box with plenty of extra protection, they always do in my experience. I wouldn't have received a more perfect Slipcover from a boutique than I got from them. I have yet to receive anything cosmetically damaged from BM. Diabolik on the other hand, while they are usually very good... I have actually received a couple of things that weren't exactly in perfect shape when they arrived.

My damage wasn't from shipping, but regardless, the no shrink on copies sent to the indie retailer is something new to me. Interesting.

I bought from Grindhouse the slip was inside the shrink wrap.
