we have these to battle tranformers. at least there is day to date releases in there. better than the nothing we had the heroes and blades of glory week. plus we have the momentum of the big weeks of this week, the 25th, oct.2nd, and 9th. I'm not worried, our flood of releases will water down tranformers impact.
Oct. 16th we have: AC/DC: Live at Donington (Sony BMG) Hollow Man (Director's Cut) (Sony) The Invisible (Buena Vista) Masters of Horror: Season One - Volume One (Starz) Masters of Horror: Season One - Volume Two (Starz) The Reaping (Warner) Return to House on Haunted Hill (Warner) |

Good figures, but that still doesn't include the by-a-thon figures of 18/9 (British date!
![]() Also the figures show a BR lead consistent, but it also doesn't show a letup in HD-DVD buying figures either. Until BR increases to say 70:30 consistent then things will be happier, at least for me. |

The HDers had a counter buy-a-thon that day, and filed piles of pre-orders and such that don't actually do revenue
Here's the thing. Look at the HD charts on eproductwars. On any given day, Amazon is selling under 800 HD discs TOTAL. That's how small the people fighting is here. |

How did you come up with the number 800? I don't see any actual total sales numbers myself. Just salesranks. Edit: Does the number 800 refer to the number of HD discs available for purchase? That makes more sense... Last edited by Slapper; 09-23-2007 at 12:14 AM. |

Hold your mouse over one of the "who won" colored blocks under "count" Typically both are in the 300s or so. So under 9/18 it says Blu-437 HD-376 If you go down to the graph, you'll see only a slight upturn for Blu, and a huge spike for HD as they did a counter buy. I don't think the buy-a-thons are going to have a net positive effect to be honest, because there's no way to get the word out without the HDers also hearing about it Try to buy an average of a disc a week. That's what'll do the most good. CONSISTANT sales are more valuable than high spikes |

Not sure that what those #'s are for!?! I run over the sale rank & sales rank 25 & the #'s are 2:1 or even 4:1 hddvd, but says that blu ray won time after time.
I've always thought that those numbers where rank averages. Last edited by clyon; 09-23-2007 at 01:30 AM. |

I think this number is for "the number of discs that CAN be purchased" that day. This would include the number of "in stock" discs plus the number of "Pre-Order" discs that are AVAILABLE on Amazon. This is not the actual QUANTITY SALES for that day. Maybe I'm reading it wrong... For the Buy-a-Thons I only pick up discs I would not normally rush out and buy. It's a good excuse for me to go back and get a good catalog title or two. My average per week is well above 1 per week and will continue to be well above that through the holidays. So many Blus coming... |

Amazon stopped providing stock numbers. But back when they did I think we could get some idea about how many discs they were selling. When Casino Royale came out it looked like it was doing around 300 a day average for a few days there. It wouldn't surprise me if 300 on Blu-ray hit 800 in a day at its peak by itself. For things around the couple hundred to few hundred ranking around 30 per day seemed about right and 2-3 per day for things way down (maybe rankings of #5000 or so). But those sales are probably higher for the same ranking as we get closer to Christmas. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a good way to get an accurate idea of how many they are selling each day from the data that Amazon now provides and the eproductwars.com uses. If Amazon was doing close to 10% of the total sales out there that would be about 10k for a week where the total for both formats was 100k, and 800 per day for a week where the total was 56k.

Spot On IMO. I try to buy a few titles each week while leaving a few titles available for weeks where new releases might be dry or undesireble to me. |

I still don't buy into the data coming from amazon as being anything more than "voodoo economics", figures lie, and liars figure.
The Amazon numbers are meaningless, plain and simple. If I understand correctly, they can be effected by simply pre-ordering in mass, and then strategically canceling the pre-orders after the data has been logged... what the hell is up with that? And the whole idea of beating your chest and proclaiming to the world that "our amazon sales rank is better than your amazon sales rank" is freakin' laughable! Who in the hell has empowered Amazon with the credibility to imply their numbers mean ANYTHING? Or should I say, that they mean anything beyond what they are, a freakin' sales RANK.... and the ranking isn't even just against other HDM, it is against EVERYTHING AMAZON SELLS.... Someone tell me just how it is relevant to say that one format has a higher ranking against toasters than the other format has against self improvement books on tape. The only things these numbers are good at is getting people fired up, and willing to buy their products from Amazon, simply to cause movement in this meaningless number. BD doesn't win when WE buy from Amazon, and HD-DVD doesn't win when THEY buy from Amazon... the only winner is AMAZON! I think the whole snapshot in time view of sales is kind of bogus as a rule as well... think of it like getting on the scale when you are on a diet. Doctors tell you NOT to weigh yourself all the time because due to fluctuations, the numbers become meaningless. They tell you to weigh yourself once a day at most, and better yet, once a week.. the videoscan numbers ARE that once a week weigh-in The Nielsons have shown a pretty consistent advantage of 1.5:1 or better (usually much better) over the last several months I don't care how you cook the data from amazon, you can't get their numbers to yield results similar to what ACTUAL sales figures tell us. This tells me that for an accurate measure of how sales stack up, the nieson/videoscan numbers are pretty much the only responsible measure we have. Everything else is simply noise. |
