Fear and Loathing transfer is really solid..... and "For All Mankind" has some good reviews up, and the Press Film looks great, the documentary filming from inside Houston is good, and the stock moon footage is very "Raw"

I got the first edition non-anamorpic set from 1999, I will just pick up the single for 14.99 at B&N tomorrow since I don't want break the set up. Don't mind having two copies of Brazil.

Guess I'll pay the extra then! Thanks!

Also - my Repulsion blu just arrived from Amazon! Well, I know what I'm watching tonight.

Let's not spend the 30 days between release announcements into making this a wish-list thread........

I watched this last night though, as a matter of fact! Weird Coincidence!

Yes, you can still get the Criterion edition of Rushmore VIA the website and you can still get copies on Amazon and Ebay. What my OP was trying to convey is that since CRITERION will no longer be MAKING copies of RUSHMORE, even though you can CURRENTLY by their backstock copies, if by chance they are planning a BD release of this wonderful movie.
We understand what Out Of Print means, but I did not see evidence of that being the case on Criterion's site - it simply says "Add to cart." If you could point out where you saw that Rushmore was now out of print, I'd certainly check it out and offer an apology if I was wrong. I'd love to see a Rushmore Blu-ray, and I certainly have nothing against any information you might offer. But I do have a problem with the way you present yourself as there's no need for such overreaction and rudeness.

Don't think so, they lost their contract with ABC, they same time they lost the rights to Hitchcock's Notorius, Rebecca and Spellbound. The 2-DVD set of Straw Dogs is a keeper, much better than both the MGM and Anchor Bay versions, which are also OOP!

Where are you getting this info? Did you write to them?

If a title goes OOP with Criterion they immediatly NOTE it on their titles page ASAP they do NOT hesitate - examples are RAN and CONTEMPT. Plenty of stores still have stock in fact most Barnes locations have been restocks based on their supply. (It would be odd that they would not note that the tiltle is OOP no matter what their stock supply is)

According to Criterion Rushmore is NOT oop.

I wish Criterion would do a listing for their OOP titles so people are aware, and have a chance to buy a copy in stores etc if they choose to.

Default Look on Amazons website

they actually update often, as opposed to Criterion. Also, I have not been able to order that edition for my store in over six months...and I go through one of the largest distributors in the world.

Bolded the 2 I really enjoy. I'd also recommend Throne of Blood (if you don't already have it). Rashomon is a fantastic transfer given the source, I thought it looked great on my setup. I really enjoyed the extras on this particular release as well.

For any big fan of Straw Dogs it's completely worth tracking down the Criterion version. The only way I'll ever get rid of mine is if Criterion gets the rights back and does a Blu-ray. Straw Dogs is my favorite film in the collection (I'm a huge Peckinpah fan), and it was my only day one Criterion purchase.

Straw Dogs was pushed back a few times, but the UK Blu-ray release is on track now.

Is this true? I'd heard the MGM version used the same transfer that Criterion produced. Or did you mean better because the MGM has no extras?

Also, as I'm writing, I've noticed a lot of discussion regarding Criterion cases -- and thought I'd mention that the Repulsion release (in Canada, anyway) is cased in one of those fatter UK-style Blu ray cases - only without the blue! To be honest, I thought it looked really slick.

The restoration demo is only on the first edition. And I think it was region-free, whereas the second edition was region-locked. (From what I remember reading.) [Referring to the single disc versions here.]

Well, I went to B&N today, and spent MORE money. Heh. I picked up Fires on the Plain, Onibaba and The Sword of Doom, as planned, but also grabbed the 3-disc version of Brazil, Two-Lane Blacktop and Young Mr. Lincoln.

The employees told me the sale will still be in effect Monday, and since I get another paycheck tomorrow... I'll probably go again on Monday, since my check should clear by then.

Oh, and Deads3t, I do already have Throne of Blood, but thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually hoping to find a copy of The Hidden Fortress on Monday... and not the Essentials version, but the actual release.

EDIT: Scary follow-up. I opened these up and the copy of Young Mr. Lincoln I just purchased was still inside the cellophane when I brought it home, had the tamper seal on, but inside - NO DISCS! The case had the booklet, but no DVDs.

Guess I'll be taking it back.

I've had this happen to me before, sucks. I've had games come with no disks and my copy of "Clean, Shaven" was missing the booklet.

Assuming I had none of the above mentioned......

Seven Samurai,
Brazil
8 1/2

(because I think there is an import of Ran coming soon to Blu-ray, otherwise replace 8 /12 with "Ran" on this list)
