I remember the 1995 Nebraska team well. They clobbered everyone, including what was probably Spurrier's best team ever.

I've been watching since the early about 1991 and I'd rank the best teams.
1. Miami 2001
2. Nebraska 1995
3. Clemson 2018
4. Texas 2005
5. USC 2004
Honorable mention:
Florida 1996
Florida St. 1999
Ohio St. 2002 - the only team to beat the 2001-02 Canes.
Florida 2008
Alabama 2009
Yeah I agree with you. They did have a weak schedule but they dominated that weak schedule. Also agree that 93 albeit with a loss and 99 were better teams.

I know on paper Clemson and Bama look like they will be hard to beat the next couple of year's, and I agree but each team is different. A lot can happen in a year, team chemistry changes, attitudes change. Will to win is different. Injuries. Complacency. Let’s just wait and see. Trust me I'm a victim of that after 2013 season, I was like "Jameis coming back the whole O line is coming back no body is going to beat us" boy was I wrong. The 2014 team looked nothing like the 2013 team, FSU made it though that season by the skin of their teeth that year, and got destroyed in the playoff game. What I really envy about Clemson is that they are able to hold on to their coaches, no real turnover.

Texas A&M has a brutal 2019 schedule. They're the only team that plays both Alabama and Clemson.
@ Clemson
vs. Auburn
vs. Alabama
@ Georgia
@ LSU

At the same time, Clemson and Alabama have already been here for 4+ straight years.

Yeah, both Alabama and Clemson have shown that they can reload year after year and keep winning big. It never seems to matter how many seniors or players they lose to the draft.

With the 4 team playoff it makes it extremely hard for either to not make the playoff. Either team can probably lose 1 game in any given season and still make it. It's very hard to see Clemson dropping more than 1 regular season game in the next few years and Alabama always manages to lose no more than 1 as well.

You think that Clemson can lose a game and still make it with the ACC being down? The way it played out if they drop that game to Syracuse they wouldn't have made it in. Most likely Ohio state would have been in over them. So Bama always have a larger margin for error based on the SEC having more quality teams.

Yes. They made the playoff and won the national title in 2016 losing a game to a bad Pitt team. They can likely afford to drop one game by a slim margin and still make it, especially if it's early in the season.

Unlike most SEC teams they tend to play quality non-conference schedules. They play South Carolina every year. They also play Texas A&M in 2019 and Notre Dame in 2020 to help their SOS. Ohio St.'s 2019 schedule isn't likely to be much harder than Clemson's. They play no-name non conference opponents and Penn St. and Michigan are likely going to be less talented than their 2018 teams.

Sept. 21 – Miami (Ohio)
Sept. 28 – at Nebraska
Oct. 5 – Michigan State
Oct. 12 – Off
Oct. 18 – at Northwestern
Oct. 26 – Wisconsin
Nov. 2 – Off
Nov. 9 – Maryland
Nov. 16 – at Rutgers
Nov. 23 – Penn State
Nov. 30 – at Michigan
Dec. 7 – Big Ten Championship Game (Teams TBD)

BetDSI put out odds on where Hurts transfers and they have Houston as the favorite at +150, followed by Arizona at +300, Maryland at +400, and UCLA and TCU at +500.

We'll see if all those games actually happen. Games that far in the future get cancelled quite a bit, and Ohio State has cancelled games on multiple occasions. Ohio State was supposed to play Tennessee in 2018 and 2019 and North Carolina in 2017 and 2018 but cancelled the games when the Big Ten announced it was moving to a nine-game schedule, and they were supposed to play Georgia in 2020 and 2021 but backed out when they couldn't agree on dates to play.

They put Houston as the favorite because he is from Houston but UH already has a very good QB in D'Eriq King if he comes back from his injury.
