I'll take all of the above. I find lots to appreciate from all sorts of styles and genres. The list of movies I would give one-star is very short.

I've certainly seen great directors elevate a cast, but I've also seen great actors carry an entire movie.

Retaliate? This isn't the Borg vs. the Enterprise.

[Show spoiler]If it were though, you'd DEFINITELY be the Borg. God. Perfect casting.

It's an Unpopular Opinions Thread. Lighten up.

I like Gal Gadot and Daisy Ridley. Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actress though.

She's so ****ing good in Hereditary. Really, I think that'll go down as one of the all-time great performances.

You felt the need to traduce a completely unrelated actor in direct response to my post about Gadot. That's clear retaliation or else it's just a nonsensical, non-sequitur.

Yeah. Usually the opinions go largely unchallenged here because they are pre-acknowledged as being unpopular. They don't invite people to drag their hang ups about certain unrelated franchises into it and then take the low road at a female connected to it, which is clearly a retaliation. And also utterly specious.

And now you're taking personal shots at me and what alien species I'd be perfect casting for, and then bizarrely "hiding" it behind spoiler tags.

Of course, classic/traditional acting can be a good component of films (and is the norm already), but I applaud Bresson for doing something totally different and original. One can appretiate both and everything outside and in between.

And part of what I am saying is that it is a shame that a lot of people will only be interested in something if there is a big name attached to it, whether it is Disney, Spielberg, Chris Pratt or whatever. So this not only extends to acting, but everything else too, as brand/stardom is a big factor for many. Most probably just like familiarity.

I think exploring and discovering is fun, no matter the outcome of your preference, as there is always something new to find and learn in every corner.

It's no surprise that people have wanted to point cameras at people and to have them pointed at them since they were invented. However, some people feel the exact opposite way.

The art-form itself inadvertently created the idea of movie stardom. And now the art-form is, and has periodically over time, been said to be plagued with and held back by movie stardom.

But the fact is that movie stardom is a real thing. It's not a fabrication by the industry. Once nobodies got in front of cameras and, like a lottery almost, it seemed that the camera "liked" certain individuals, they became elevated instantly to the level of the subjects of great classical sculpture. Only this was more direct and more compelling because, after all, the camera doesn't lie.

It's a funny old game. I for one believe in movie stardom. Without it there are some films that wouldn't work and just wouldn't endure as they do.

I despise when someone appoints themselves the gatekeeper of a thing and says what it should or shouldn't be, even if I agree with them.

Then you must despise the whole mainstream film industry.

You're welcome. Thanks for bring her up, she's remarkably talented.

Incidentally, perhaps you've noticed this isn't the "Stick to Martoto Approved Topics" or the "Don't Criticize Actresses Martoto Cares For" thread.

I noticed that it's the Unpopular Opinions Thread (clue in the title). Think you can manage sticking to that topic?

People sharing their interest in someone's bowel movements isn't what I'd call criticism. But then, your focus determines your reality.

Oh by the way, you missed another opportunity to call out someone for arbitrarily turning something into a Star Wars discission with no merit whatsoever. It seemed to be a very important thing for you to tell me to not talk about, it that one time when you were so upset about it being shoehorned into another thread/topic. Just that one time though. And not the dozens of times since when it's been certain other posters that have hijacked a thread in order to shitpost.

Uhhm OK.

I'll take whatever you just said, turn it against something I assume you like, add shit related imagery to it, and then you can lighten up.

I agree! I’m always shocked when people bring her up as some kind of talented actress. I don’t think she has much of a presence.
