Eden Lake - Man was this a chilling horror film! Now this is what I am talking about when it comes to savage cat and mouse game! This was a quality film and very disturbing and very very effective! I am not sure how many times I could watch it but well done and would most likely watch this every October for the Halloween marathon. This film had all the elements for a disturbing suspense/thriller/horror film. The main antagonists was damn good and very believable. Unlike certain films the couple (protagonists) were not dumb and didnt make the dumb decisions that we normally see in these films. What a ending also. This film comes highly recommended.

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

Porky's Revenge - First time seeing the 3rd film in the Porky series. The first film is a classic and the 2nd film was terrible. This film is right in the middle. It had a few funny moments but doesnt quite catch the magic that the first film had. Definitely redeemed themselves after that 2nd abomination. This film was nuthing special but glad to finally see it. The first film still standalone and is the only film I would like to see released on blu.

Film Rating - 3 stars (out of 5)

Beverly Hills Cop II - My first time seeing part II as I had seen parts 1 & 3. This one just slipped through the cracks. Eddie was the man in the 80's and this film didnt show otherwise. He was up to his regular wisecracks and con ways and was funny as usual. I still think I liked the first film better but this one wasnt to far behind. Just another film showing Eddie's talents all through the 80's when he was making good film after good film.

Film Rating - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

Beverly Hills Cop III - This film gets hated on to much and I like it just about as good if not better than the first two. This one to has the most replay value as it has dated better in my opinion and Eddie was great as he normally was in the 80's. The film just seems more updated with the times and I loved the antagonist in this film as his personality and charm brought a more comedic element which helped the film in my view. In the first two films the antagonist were all serious with no humor or personality. Thats what makes this film different and I liked it quite a bit.

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!

Baraka is not your conventional movie. There is no plot, no dialogue, and no narration. It's simply just an hour-and-a-half tour around the world. But for those few minutes, Baraka immerses you in a one-of-a-kind visual experience you will never forget. The cinematography is so damn mind-blowingly breathtaking, I don't believe I'll ever see a film as beautiful as this. Baraka basically schools your eyeballs with masterful shots and techniques that will surely make you go "Wow..." at least once. The score and sounds are no slouches either, further augmenting the experience. There may be no characters or actors in this film -- only Earth -- but damn, does Earth give one hell of a performance. Baraka is like a majestic dream that stays with you well after you wake. And it is most definitely one you will be longing to revisit again.

Rating: ***** out of 5

There is a valid reason for showing this level of brutality. As for whether or not there's a valid reason for the brutality, it all depends on your interpretation of the final details. There is no closure what-so-ever; it is completely open-ended. I can see at least three valid hypothesises. I suspect there are enough clues to validate going one way or the other, but I would need to summon the courage for a second viewing. This could become your next triangle, but it's no vacation cruise .

Thanks Hep. Is the violence "simply" brutal, or is it grotesque?

Agree, though I was slightly more entertained.

I was surprised for how little Angelie does they even recycled her lame off the wall kick, the 2nd time they at least made it look slightly better. Basically felt like a very poor woman's version of the Bourne Identity.

Almost entirely brutal, not much in the way of gruesomeness. Think shotgun wounds, blunt force trauma, fist blows, knife wounds, torture scenarios, and a tonne of psychological horror.

It is man. I have to give it to foreign films as most have on here. Its just a shame I cant do subtitles or I would watch more. English language foreign horror films to me are usually always good. Also because of my fear of how we would be treated if we went to other countries helps a lot. But also the atmosphere, the eerie effect and realizm is unmatched. It would seem like u are watching actual footage. Let me know when u watch it. Got Em!!

Next greatest blind-buy: “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” It was another fine cheap used rental. But given the bad reviews, I should have known better.

The film has its moments: there are plenty of flashy special effects and quite a few big action scenes. For the most part though, most of it felt plain and arbitrary, even with a giant steel eagle and wizards shooting stuff at each other. Some of the comedy was amusing, but most of it fell flat for me. On the plus side, the movie does move fast and crams a lot into its runtime.

My biggest gripes will be with the story. From the start, I can tell that it’s weak (and poorly-written). The entire prologue segment should rightfully have been omitted entirely, and the story should have unraveled the details as it went along. Instead, the film just throws it all out at you, and then upchucks some more crap on top of that. As if the background info wasn’t enough, the film also throws out the typically silly and sappy college-level drama and romance, with intermittent bursts of sorcery training. The film ultimately goes all over the place, to the point where most things come off as convoluted. Then, the plot holes and bothersome unrealistic elements emerge! It is neat how they tried to tie science and magic together, but in the end it’s not enough to support the mythos the filmmakers have created. I’m sure there are oodles of inconsistencies and creative choices that I can criticize.

Cinematically, the film shows okay photography; it’s solid, but never visually exceptional. Acting is okay: Nicholas Cage is…himself…the title character kid is probably the most annoying kid since Shia LaBeouf, and there’s not enough Monica Bellucci, dammit! The writing is average at best. Production designs are kinda cool and the production value is high. The biggest highlight: the special effects are cool. Otherwise…meh…

3/5 (entertainment: 3.5/5, story: 1.5/5, film: 3/5)

Recommendation: Not really. I’d recommend the “Nightwatch” and “Daywatch” films instead. They may be more convoluted and confusing, but they are better. But my prime choice for good urban fantasy would still be the “X” anime series; watch that instead!

The Blu-Ray looks and sounds darn near perfect!

PQ: 5/5, AQ: 5/5
