Chiming in again I felt Eva 3.0 was wonderful and I can't understand the negativity it gets. That response came out of complete left field for me.
3.0 broke my expectations and then some, which is exactly what I expected. It's classic Eva.

With that in mind, I have no idea what fans of it even think they want anymore. Can't be helped! lmao

To each their own I guess, but having said that - I fall in the same camp as you. I hated The Last Jedi, and Anno "rebuilding" the franchise through his four movies was done only because he was frustrated with budget/animation restraints; not because he creatively had more to offer than what he did in the original 1995 series.

I mean, if he's not satisfied with the animation - then that's fine, but redoing the franchise solely on grounds of it being more cosmetically pleasing and not refining what made the original so excellent just f**ing misses the point.

Which is also why I am NOT excited about FF7 Remake... (Off-topic but still relevant)

I preordered it. I have always wanted to play the original. I remember seeing it at Blockbuster when I was younger and wanting to see what all the hype was about. I'm going to buy X/X-2 HD before March and make that my first FF game before going into FF7.

The original is truly one of the best video games ever made. I grew up with Squaresoft (not to be confused with Square Enix )

It's right up there with A Link to the Past, Xenogears, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, and all the other All Time greats...

I'm definitely looking forward to it despite having no previous FF experience. It's one of those franchises that I've had a lot of interest in but never played a single title. Time to change that in 2020.

I played a few minutes of XV with a friend but that's it.

The best ones (in my opinion) are IV, VI, IX and XII. All are pretty accessible with multiple ports and/or remasters available (some better than others).

Well, I hope it'll be better than what I'm giving it credit for. I think the remake is being positioned as an unimaginative prequel to Advent Children - both in mind and soul - which will be DRASTICALLY different in tone and approach compared to the original...

Plus having us wait for the other "episodes" to come out to play the full game is just outright b****it... regardless how much "content" they plan to deliver to justify the means. They call it creative freedom; I call it corporate greed.

The remake actually has its own continuity, so the compilation project is no longer canon.

This would be another hallway simulator like FFXIII if it was one game. The world just can’t be faithfully recreated otherwise.

"The remake actually has its own continuity".

Yeah, that's the problem. When fans wanted a remake - they wanted a remake of the original game - not someone else's (Tetsuya Nomura) interpretation of it.

"So the compilation project is no longer canon"

I was already aware of that. Just because something's not canon doesn't mean someone's (Tetsuya Nomura) bad tendencies from another endeavor (Advent Children) won't rub off on a different project. FF7 Remake REEKS of Advent Children stylization and approach.

"This would be another hallway simulator. The world just can't be faithfully recreated otherwise"

Ding ding ding. You're right - because it's not faithful. At all. It's perfectly possible to create FF7 into one game. Hell, even Squaresoft ran into this problem with the original, which is why they used 3 discs. Square Enix is more than welcome, and capable, to do the same for FF7R. Need use four BD's for the new game? Go right ahead, but don't give me that "it's too big for one game" nonsense (SE literally said this, like we all magically forgot they used to put one game on multiple discs lawl).

As far as feeling like it's on rails, that's a "what if" scenario, because the original can't and isn't described that way, antiquated development means or not...

If this is actually release I'll be really surprise for 4.0 but hopefully I can get both US and Japanese BDs when they come out.

I wonder how many years it'll take Funimation to get this one out.

I wonder once the 4th film comes out, if Funimation will do a Blu Ray release with all four films in one nice package/box like they did with the Tenchi films and the Hosoda quadruple pack. Yes. That would be nice.

Depends on if FUNi even licenses this one. It's questionable if they'll be able to license it given what's been going on lately. I'm going to be so frustrated if Netflix gets it, and then everyone's shelves will be incomplete.

Would they really let the last one slip though their hands? I'm sure Funimation will try and acquire it.

They can try but Netflix has way way more money. They clearly don't care about Funimation so if they want it they'll get it.

They better not want it then. I'd like to have all four films in my collection.

The FFVII comparison isn't entirely off topic, as it was fairly obviously inspired by Eva in some ways. Anyways...

I've never fully understood this mindset. Remakes generally take the source material and reexamine, reinterpret, update, or generally explore some of the same CORE ideas while providing a fresh experience. It sounds like what you wanted out of both the Rebuild films and FFVIIR is just the literal exact same experience with updated visuals.

I LOVE FFVII. I own it several times over now, but it's not perfect. The story is all over the place (the main story is solid, but the details sometimes rob it of having a more consistent tone), the mini games are fun, but shoehorned in and pointless, and the materia system as it is robs the characters of any uniqueness or level development. If the remake were going to be what you are suggesting would be preferable, I wouldn't be as interested in it as I am. And if it's not your cup of tea, the remastered version on PS4 is the definitive way to play the original and it will still exist.

I don't even have a problem with them splitting up the release. It's literally no different from add on DLC or expansions as Bioware tended to do last generation. But that's just me.

Edit: I also don’t think you have a full understanding of what they mean when they say it won’t fit in one game. It’s not a matter of physical space. It’s a matter of monetary investment and resource allocation.

Won't surprise me especially after how well getting the series did for them. They already did it with Kabaneri by getting the sequel movie on Netflix despite not having the series.
