So I finished the game and am currently
[Show spoiler]about half way through Epilogue Part Two

I am kinda mixed on the game. I obviously liked it enough to finish it.

As a technical achievement, graphically, animation, lighting is incredible. It's got a good story, which fits in well with RDR1, I grew to quite like Arthur as a character. I enjoyed alot of the characters, their interactions with each other.

But there are problems... bad controls (movement and aiming) I find this with pretty much all Rockstar games. I just could never get to it feel good for me no matter what I tried. Dated game mechanics .. it does feel like a game from 5-10 years ago in many aspects. Mark Brown from Game Makers Toolkit wrote a good piece about this:

The game is going for this "realistic" open world feeling but the amount of time things take gets really annoying. Long animations, long travel time etc. It's a video game, and sometimes I would like it to respect my time. There's been a few times were i've thought "one more mission before work" and its taking my over 45 minutes to finish one mission! Not saying I want fast travel everywhere to spoil the exploration but there should be a balance. Having to search a room and going to 5-10 crates and slowly searching each one is silly.

The camp made no difference, I stopped donating money and resources after a while and nothing happened. No one else bothers in your camp anyway. Most missions ended up being, slowly going to a place, things kicking off then by magic hordes of enemies appearing out from the trees while you try and ride away. It feels dated like games from years ago.

There were plenty of annoyances like spawning after a mission miles away from any town or my horse, the game constantly ignoring my ammo type choice and reverting back to standard ammo, exiting cut scenes into a gun fight where the game un-equips my gun, failing missions because a team mate died, or i went off back to my horse to get a new weapon so I failed for not sticking with people.

There is just alot of small details that really add up to retract from the overall experience. It's good, but not the 98% game of the generation for me at all.

Looking forward to when multiplayer comes out soon so I can play with my friends. And will polish up some of the side missions and stranger missions in my own time after finishing the main story.

Im at %60 and pretty much agree with all you said. I would also add that the pro version is a big let down for me. With the proper lightning outdoors it looks phenomenal but most times indoors it looks so bad I feel like I’m playing a 2003 game. It’s an uneven experience. But it’s still a great game. It will rank 3rd after spider man and God of War for me.

Someone mentioned it above but the camp is rubbish. No one contributes to it in any significant way and every change you make to it feels inconsequential.

Other than that the game is great. I'm only playing it at weekends though because it's frustrating to play if you don't have a lot of time free to invest in it.

Couldn't help but notice you said you finished the game, but are on the epilogues? Do you mean the epilogues are just cut scenes and not playable?

Agreed that the camp was not very useful for me except for getting new missions and shaving/resting and changing clothes. I only put $1000 worth of stuff in there and never suffered any consequences thankfully. I hardly ever gave any food and yet they served stew each night, along with coffee. I also ignored upgrading the camp except for the first donation to the ammo supply, which after it depleted once, it never restored itself. I didn't mind, since I had tons of ammo from the mission looting. The three icons were in the red depletion for the whole game pretty much. About to start Epilogue 2 after Chapter 6, which I'm enjoying now that the southwest is unlocked.

Valid points you made that can definitely improve a very good game.

While Fallout 3 is still my favorite game ever since starting with the Colecovision as a gamer, I'll still agree that there are plenty of glitches, bugs, crashes and flaws in Fallout 3 that take away from an otherwise awesome experience. Same situation with RDR2.

Every time I go to the start menu it says I can't save right now.

I think it's like most RPGs where you can save during free roam but not in the middle of a mission

And that is the annoying part when you fail during that mission. Have to start the entire thing all over.

When you fail you have the option to restart at the check point in the mission. It gives me that option all the time. There’s restart mission restart at check point or cancel mission.

Yeah they even lets you skip over a checkpoint if you died a few times haha. They know how lazy their audience is becoming I suppose. The lack of fast travel and slow movement in camps is pretty defiant I have to admit for a company as seemingly self aware as Rockstar is.

Even though this could be my favorite game now I get what you mean about the missions always turning into shoot outs. Like no plan ever goes right in the story, never. Dutch almost becomes a self parody "ONE LAST BIG SCORE" "HAVE SOME GOD DAMN FAITH"
[Show spoiler]even though every camp member is getting slaughtered every heist. I love that guy.

Glad I'm not apart of and was not born in that generation.
Too bad you like to generalize and assume people are “millenials” just by them expressing their opinions towards something

So far, this game is pretty lame. I have no drive to keep playing it is such a chore. How could they screw this up? How many updates have they released with all of the bugs everyone is reporting? They're too busy trying to finalize multi-player.

really? i'm old fashion i guess couldn't i don't give a shit about multi-player now that doesn't mean i'm against it. it's just not the type of way to play a video game that i like. i like offline playing as i'm a single player kind of guy. but if they spend more time working on the multi-player section and not doing jack shit with the single player area.

i get that to hazard a guess maybe they have more people not play it as a single player but at the same time they should also work on the single player section as well. i haven't installed the game yet so i dunno how buggy it truly is. i hope it's fixed soon...

it's funny all games pretty much have bugs and these days they can do patches to fix them and a lot of them can be quite funny i think. but if they are so bad they are hurting the game than they should have spent more time fixing the bugs instead of releasing the game before it was ready to be put out. but than what the hell do we know ya know?
