By the way, if I opened a sealed copy on First Blood on tape, which hasn't experienced "all those viewings," and watched it on my 4K tv I'm sure it would look worse than the UHD. I'm sure the UHD is not the gold standard of UHDs, but it still looks way better than a tape does.
All I know is when I saw it on VHS and Beta in 1986 on my 30 inch tv with my friends we didn't complain about color or transfer. The movie looked to us how we saw it at the movies. I saw it at theater and drive-in in 1985. I know this movie and have seen it on laserdisc which is the best I seen it as a whole. I admit for like 20 minutes on 4k I love the way it looks.

Again in the year 1986 when I watched this movie on VHS and Beta it looked good.

When I watched this same movie on 4k I noticed so many flaws starting with color.

I was not talking about comparing in 2016 a 1986 VHS or Beta copy with 4k.
The 4k transfer does not look like the movie I saw in 1985 which is not good. The VHS/Beta looked just like the movie in the theater.

I had CEOT3K in VHS/Criterion laserdisc boxset, laserdisc, 2 versions on dvd. I didn't see it on bluray just 4k.
4k I watched on 80 in samsung tv.

Now I have noticed that if I watch a bluray movie on 40in tv it looks better than on my 80 in. tv.
By better I mean depending on the quality of the bluray.
Like 10 COMMANMENTS and JAWS.

Maybe if I post the scenes I am talking about and then you guys can compare.
I will bring up what a reviewer said about BOYS N DA THE HOOD 4k.
That movie has one bad looking scene in the beginning in the classroom scene.
I looked for that scene when I bought the 4k and he was right and I agree that one scene looks bad. But the rest of the 4k is great and I recommend it.
So do you guys agree that scene looks bad in BOYS N THE HOOD?

It’s because of the lens used to film that section. This has been covered ad nauseum already.

I agree that it looked LIKE IT SHOULD LOOK.

Which is a lie, since the film in theaters was 2.35:1 while the VHS was pan and scan 1:33.

So no, it couldn't have looked "just like" it did in theaters. (Not to mention the fact that old CRT TVs had 480 lines of resolution, while 35mm film is the equivalent of 4K in terms of detail, so there's another chink in your misinformation armor.)

Are you seriously asking why you couldn’t make out the details of a unique form of lens distortion on a 425i playback medium when you can on a 2160p one? I don’t mean to throw my hat in with someone as profoundly lacking in social graces as Bates Motel, but he’s right. You need to learn so much more about your chosen hobby before you start sounding off. You literally don’t know what you’re talking about, or what you’re looking at, at this point in your collecting of high definition media.

So in Boys in the Hood when I saw it at the movies and the classroom scene didn't look bad the director made a mistake?
What I think it comes down to the person working on the bluray or 4k transfer.
Just like those 1st few GOOD,BAD,UGLY blurays look like crap with too much yellow.

I am a movie geek who has bought movies since the 80s' in every format.
So I know my stuff.
You guys who disagree with me must have started in late 90s' is my guess.
You never saw RAMBO:FIRST BLOOD at the movies.

I am talking color transfer not widescreen/full screen!
Back then we didn't no about widescreen in the 80s'.
It wasn't till THE COLOR PURPLE hit VHS in widescreen that people began to know about widescreen. Because of black bars on square tvs'.

RAMBO:FIRST BLOOD 2
chapter 3
time: 11:27 the color in this scene is teal. DID NOT LOOK LIKE THAT AT MOVIES, laserdisc, VHS, Beta or 1st run tv.

chapter 9
time: 1:11 looks great! That's when Rambo uses the arrows that explode.
Now my whole point is that the 4k does not keep this quality through the whole movie like BACK TO THE FUTURE 4k which 100% does. Both movies are from 1985. Again it has to do with who ever is doing the color transfer.
