While I don't agree that "nothing happened", I do worry a little about these shows being treated like AoS. That's why I wondered a couple of days ago what percent watch these shows vs buy a movie ticket. If it's relatively minor you can't alienate the movie going people and leave them lost.

I don’t think Marvel cares if people are lost, their films kept building on each other with little regard for those who were only watching every other film. These shows will likely follow a similar mold where not every one may be essential, but they’ll keep building on things. Disney wants more and more people to subscribe to Disney+ and right now the best way to ensure that is to tell people these Marvel shows are essential and tie into the movies.

You know when Feige comes out and directly says something instead of skirting around it (which is infrequent), it's with meaningful intention. And he's said that these shows will directly connect to and effect the movies that are forthcoming. Last edited by j_sazin; 03-07-2021 at 05:25 PM. |

Endgame sold about 93 million individual tickets (which obviously includes people who went multiple times, etc). Disney+ has more than 95 million *households* subscribed. If anything, Wandavision clearly crossed-over culturally and is bringing more people to watching the MCU, versus less. And as you can see in this thread, even the people who watched it just to hate it on it still watched it. It's also not going anywhere, and is going to continue to be available to anyone who wants to watch it. |

Even as someone who wasn’t a big fan of the show, saying ‘nothing happened’ is a bit much. You have an hero/potential villain origin arc completed, a major dead character set up to return and you have more context around major series events. Let alone some subtext around how light entertainment has been used to ease turmoil and the changing relationship over the years from sitcom to viewer (granted the show pisses a lot of that away by moving directly as the text of the whole show).
Like I have the problem that the series was predominantly set up for bigger things down the line, and played up more for ravenous theorising than satisfaction in it’s own right, but it has no more or less events and information than you would find in a standard Marvel joint. |

i watched two viewings of the finalie, one friday night and one saturday night and it was an amazing ending to the series.
as usual with marvel movies, it had a lot of nice call back to things that happened during the other parts of the season. it setup nicely to go into the next Spiderman and Dr. Strange movies. it also setup nicely to do a second season of WandaVision which i hope they do. as for the purpose of the difference between the MCU Movies & the MCU Shows i believe is the shows give an opportunity to flesh out back stories and some clarity to some characters and events that the Movies just don't have time to go into long drawn out levels of details. that is only my take. example, look how much we learned about Wanda's back story and some of the things that went into making her what she was during all the Movies and now, what she appears to be turning into. as my daughter said about her getting a snack between meals, it's just meant to "hold me over", i see the series as well prepared, slowly eaten and slowly digested snacks which are needed between waiting for Movies. oh and as for many people here and elsewhere cursing the MCU for not giving them what the fans thought was going to happen, and for what MCU actors trolled the fans about and made them think what might happen, i never was concerned about that stuff. i simply let the show entertain me each week. oh i read and at times found interesting and very plausible fan based theories and they almost all had Mephistos name tied to them. i think intentionally and at times unintentionally, Jac Shafer led us down those paths. yes, at times, i thought it was heading to a place it didn't and i wasn't mad when it turned out to be different than i thought; i considered that good writing. i learned, starting with that trailer for Infinity Wars, (thank you Russos ![]() i'm giving WandaVision a 4.5 out of 5 ![]() ![]() i held back a half because i wanted a little more Darcy, Monica and Woo screen time. mind you, i was happy with what i got, just want them to have a little bit more. also, i was hoping for and still am for Darcy and Woo being a thing, i think they would make a great (goofy AF) power couple! ![]() at some point, (since we are Covid 19 vaccinated up, my Daughter and i will get together at my place and do a one day binge of WandaVision since we both loved the show! ![]() ![]() |

I think y’all are misinterpreting what I had posted. Feige has a mindset of where the demographic of fans who may not have Disney+ or no interest in keeping up with the TV series corner of the MCU can still enjoy the future movies without feeling they’re missing anything important.

Everything is going to be on Disney+ if you choose not to watch certain things that will be up to that person. Maybe before the Marvel Studios logo there will be a recap of Wandavision in Doctor Strange 2. |

also, considering you can watch (soon) all the MCU movies in one place, that opens itself up to wanting to see some of the shows, you know, when you finish watching a movie it will pop up one of the related shows and say, "because you watched Ultron, you might like this........." don't get me wrong, some people simply will not watch the shows no matter what. i'm glad it's not required, but, i do think if you like the movies, your gonna want to see the shows. those are my thoughts, speaking for myself. ![]() |

I don’t think Disney+ will ever feature Universal’s Incredible Hulk or Sony’s Spider-Man films anytime soon.

The MCUs track record in general has been if you missed films, too bad. I think that will continue with the shows. Look at Civil War, if you hadn't seen Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron, you'd be EXTREMELY lost. I think that's the best indicator of how things will proceed moving forward. Skip content at your own risk, but it's all on Disney+ if you need to catch up (which again ties back into them pushing Disney+ on new subscribers). |
