This has been at the top of my wish list for years. I hope Criterion take it on.

I would love Criterion to release the Mexican films Amores Perros and Rudo Y Cursi. Also Inarritu’s 21 Grams.

How long does the BN.com offer last? Are OOS titles sometimes restocked during the sale?

The sale ends August 2.

In previous sales, they restocked continually and titles would take a few business days to come back in. As supply chains have been impacted by current events, it is likely to be different this time. For example, none of the three stores near me seem to have received any significant deliveries since the sale began, and the shelves are rather threadbare (visited them all in the past two days).

I've been waiting for Broadcast News to come back in stock since that's the only title that isn't available at my Barnes & Noble while waiting out on two other items that are in stock so I can buy them all at once.

It finally came back in stock today but my other two items went Out Of Stock.

Hopefully the restocks are going to be a bit quicker than the one week wait for Broadcast News since the sale is almost at an end.

At least I got the Bruce Lee boxset, Le Samourai, and Hiroshima Mon Amour earlier in the sale!

I've been wanting more South America films.
Alejandro Landes, the director of Monos, has a debut film called Porfirio that needs a release. Criterion would be rad.

I'm having to sit this sale out. Apart from blocking international customers because of Covid (really?), I see they've doubled shipping charges to the UK; add the customs risk, which is a lot higher than it used to be, and it's just not worth it. I only had a couple of wants this time, so grabbed Come and See from Wow and will wait till the next flash sale to grab any others.

I had so much fun with the B&N sales over the years - including all the weirdness and uncertainty -that I actually miss taking part! I think how bad B&N are made it something of a game and a challenge to get stuff through

I figured it out. I checked my viewing diary and I see that I originally saw this movie on 8/1/2013. I then watched it for the second time in 2019. The date? 8/1. I remember now that I was shocked when I realized that, without planning it in any way, I watched this film for the second viewing on the same date that I watched it the first time, six years earlier. So I put it in my calendar to remind me to watch this movie on that date annually. I plan to watch it again on 8/1.

I ordered Swing Time, The Lady Eve, Fail Safe, and Come and See, but the shipping notice left out Come and See and said it was a pre-order.

I am wondering if there's a chart we can see where Criterion titles are ranked in regards to sales overall and on a weekly/monthly basis. Just curious...

For the titles that are out of stock chez B&N, any chance they will receive some more stock before their sale ends on Aug 2nd?

I've noticed a few things already that did come back into stock just within a few days; it's possible, just keep an eye on them. I think WOTW did show up again briefly In Stock within the last couple of days, but disappeared quickly again.

Default Salesman (1969)

I’ve picked up some great new films from the B&N sale, but the first one I had to crack open the other night was Salesman. I originally saw this documentary back in college about 35 years ago. Much of it stayed with me, but I wasn’t sure if it would have repeat impact now or again. Man, am I glad I took a chance!

Although Salesman plays like a documentary in its flat, stark appearance, it feels more like a film. And that’s because of the humanity that breathes throughout. Watching these desperate bible salesmen use religion to prey on the weaknesses of their customers, while in turn being preyed upon themselves through the greed of their bosses, is really quite a spectacle. You can see behind many of these salesmen’s eyes; that they know what they’re doing, and then they go in again. It’s sad at times, but it’s also darkly funny in parts. Listening to Paul “The Badger” Brennan sing “If I Were A Rich Man” as he drives from house to house is an example of both.

This documentary stands with the best works from the brothers Maysles. The direction, photography, and editing are as artful and brilliant as many of the best films I know. And being especially interested in that time & place (late 60's America), I found it fascinating to watch.

Unsurprisingly, this new Criterion edition looks & sounds great. I only had time to watch the extra with Bill Hader, but I look forward to the others. And I’m thrilled that they included Hader’s Documentary Now episode based on Salesman.

I’d encourage anyone interested in a blind buy to at least watch the trailer, and possibly even the whole thing somewhere. Like most things, this won’t be for everyone. But if the themes, subject, time-capsule aspect, or just the film-making grab you, it may be one of your new favorites.

I would have loved to hear how veteran western character actor, John Wayne stock company regular and buddy Paul Fix liked working with Antonioni. I bet he had some interesting stories to tell the Duke!

Sounds like there's a Delon collection that is coming to the Criterion Channel with Mr. Klein, Rocco and His Brothers, and Un Flic coming to the channel. I'm excited to see Mr. Klein since it sounds rare in the US.

Mr Klein is strongly rumored to be coming from Criterion. It might even have been confirmed. It toured last year and was very successful; it was held over several times at the Film Forum in NYC. I can’t wait.

Do you by any chance know of any other titles that are rumored to be coming to Blu-ray from Criterion?
