Just arrived today. This is a fantastic english friendly release. There are not one but two english subtitle options. The first is complete subtitles over all dialogue, the second is subtitles for foreign language dialogue only. Plus there are two english audio tracks (5.1 and 2.0)

The blu-ray.com listing is currently incomplete, it doesn't list the english subs or complete audio tracks.

Will definitely sit down to watch this before the weekend.

Great news. Received my copy in the mail yesterday. Looks like this will be the final version for me, even if Shout Select releases it. As long as it looks good, and I've been happy with most Koch releases...

Just ordered. Hoping it is still the one to get as I saw a Japanese release.

Can't go wrong for the price.

The German blu is a pretty good release -- transfer is decent and sound is good with Chinese language in English and some nice bonus features.

Worth noting the English translation of the Chinese dialogue is very different to previous versions, even changing character names like White Powder Ma.

Not terrible, but not as good as on the American version - noticeably a bit blander.

Should I go for the WAC release, or is it the German disc the best option?
p.s. I have no particular interest in the extras; PQ/AQ are my only concern.

I just watched my copy of the WAC release last week and though the PQ was very good. The movie, on the other hand... not sure how I feel about it. Huge fan of The Deer Hunter and Heaven's Gate. This one, for me, will have to be seen again to be appreciated as I found it messy and incoherent. Some great looking shots, though. Cimino was one of a kind.

Haven't seen an image comparison, but the German edition has better audio options and subtitles.

That is good to know. I haven't managed to find caps for the Warner release either.

I owned both. The Warner disc is appreciably superior, has more color/detail and just looks more appealing IMO. The Koch transfer is well encoded as all of their releases are, but the source -- the Koch disc is derived from an MGM master -- they're using isn't the same and isn't as good. The Warner Archive disc is easily the way to go, unless there's a foreign language option you need with Koch's.
