Sorry. I know pretty much nothing about home theater equipment. I've been riding the "sound bar in an apartment" life for the last few years. Finally looking into buying a house this summer and decided to start researching everything.

Ah, I see. All my speakers are towers except the rears. It's a 9.1.6 setup, so 9 all around, 1 sub, and 6 ceiling speakers.

Loving these build threads and progress updates... I haven't visited blu-ray.com with any frequency until finding your threads recently... keep up the great work.

Me too. My number one “want” on my house buying must-have list went from a garage to a nice basement.

Ah thanks! It's nice to be appreciated in one form or another. It's a bit of a haven here for me since the rest of the site devolves in childish behavior a lot of the time.

I couldn't do without a nice basement.

+1 me either, I bought a house with the biggest basement I could afford.

And many out there have small compact basement. With fewer theater options.

Really am enjoying your build thread. It's very impressive to see your DIY skills at work. I wish I had your construction knowledge and skill to execute.

I have one question: What are your plans to control light with your basement window? My reason for asking is I have two windows. I'm have an insert for both windows, but it's not as polished as I would prefer.

That would be cool, if memory recalls, I think you're Ottawa valley, I'm in the GTA, but have family in the Ottawa area, could swing that for sure if my memory is right .

When we moved 7 years ago, the only thing on my list of "must haves" was an unfinished basement so I could actually build a theatre to my specifications rather than shoe-horning one into an existing space... that an a two car garage so I can have a workshop area... got everything I wanted

Thanks Ron! It's a small window so I am putting a blind and then some blackout curtains with a rod that curves inwards towards the wall. Had that in my previous theater and worked well.

Exactly, the Outaouais to be exact (on the Quebec side). Great that you got everything you wanted!

Thanks. Yes the wall, some baseboards and crown in the front, setup the speakers. Ordered my screen today (Stewart Studiotek 130 G4 microperf 2:35).
