Had wanted to ask about the French Blu-ray boxset from Carlotta Films, how the transfers look. Read recently about Arrow Video's North American and UK recent release of five Claude Chabrol films, regarding the transfer (about the colour grading).

I did a thread and post search in the France sub-forum, but could only find some posts in this thread about Carlotta Films' release of some Chabrol films. I know of the North American Blu-ray release of some Chabrol films by Cohen Media. It has got very confusing.

I think the deaf one describes scenes and sounds if something is happening.

I believe "subtitles" is just the spoken dialogue.



"SDH" includes dialogue, but also speaker identification, sounds, etc. I.e. [barking dog]

That would be a good explanation.
I take it that "audio description" is another one altogether? On Swiss tv occasionally they show movies or tv shows with that as second audio track, but that's probably for people who can't see. I can't recall ever seeing that on physical releases.
It's actually an audio track where in addition to the spoken dialogue there is someone explaining the setting, appearance of the characters and the moods or music.

Is there any reason Carlotta never saw fit to release Red Desert on blu-ray at all given they've had the French rights to the film for ages? I know the new 4K restoration was theatrically distributed here earlier this year but still no sign of a blu-ray or, heck, a UHD.

Alright, well if it's a David M encoding and I can get it for less than 20 euros, I may pick it up anyway, despite having the Criterion blu-ray. From what I've heard, the Criterion transfer has more accurate color grading than the 4K restoration, despite the former obviously being an older master.

Never purchased a film from Carlotta. What is everyone's experience with this company? Do they do any restoration work? I am specifically interested in their Portrait of Jennie release and I'm curious if their video quality is better than Kino's blu ray release, which is one of the worst picture quality's I've seen on a blu-ray.

Anyone has got the Pasolini super-set? I've just seen pics at Tests Blu-ray, and sadly Accattone features severe macroblocking in some scenes, unlike Mamma Roma and the others transfers which are flawless. I'm guessing that Mackenzie only did Mamma Roma and, maybe, a few others... anybody can post the names of the people/lab involved with each disc/transfer? Carlotta generally mentions them in the "credits" menu.

I just took delivery of Carlotta's 2018 release of Figures in a Landscape (1970) and unfortunately, the disc has forced French subtitles on the original English audio track.
