Like you, I also haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that they show that happening. It also happened in Band of Brothers.

A few years ago a friend of mine, who runs a large Contracing company, was telling me this brutal story about an unfortunate laborer who got ripped in half when run over by a 963 tracked loader. It was during the winter and they were part of the in-ground utilty crew, only trenching about 8-10' down, so not a lot of overburden. The poor guy slipped on some ice, and the loader operator was going in reverse and the guy was in his blind spot...
I can't even imagine what it must've been like during a war.
