An incredibly difficult language to casually pick up for English speakers because the structure is so different.

My viewings have given me an understanding of the differing terms of endearment and respect added to the ends of names, helped by subs that don't Anglicise everything.

Nope I don't speak Japanese, I know a few phrases but even with the guts of 30 years of watching anime not much has sunk in!!

The UK DVD of the original Godzilla isn't too bad





Other than that it's a pretty paltry selection. There have been a few European Blu ray releases but they contain neither English subs or dubs.

Going region free is definitely the best option and Criterion's Godzilla was my first Region A disc.


King Kong vs Godzilla contains the dub/US re-edit only and this most likely will be missing from Criterion's set due torights issues.

So true; I have been watching anime since the early 90's Manga UK video boom and got into sub titles early (still love a good dub too) and even now I can only understand a handful of words!

Limited edition Blu-rays (and VHS) for Raiga and Reigo will go up for pre-order tomorrow. They will be limited to 200 units each, and will be burned BD-R copies. If they can sale out before the August 25th release date though, they will bump up totals to 1000 and press the discs. So be sure to pre-order ASAP.

They're not up for order yet. They go up tomorrow. Sold out is just a placeholder.

It appears they do, as the UK is one of the selectable countries and they gave a shipping charge for the UK address I entered.

Update on Reigo/Raiga - less than 50 Blu-ray copies of each title are left. If those sell out before August 25th then they will be upgraded to pressed discs with an additional 800 units - however as a special bonus for the first 200 pre-orders, they will be including a bonus poster for each movie. So if you ordered both, you'll get two posters.
VHS pre-orders will also include a poster, but those will still be limited to 50. They didn't say how many were left.

They are also offering t-shirts now.

First 200 copies of Reigo and Raiga have sold out and now the releases will be going fully pressed with 1000 region-free copies. Should be enough to last a little while.

I was a bit disappointed when Toei didn't release a classic Sentai on Blu-ray this year, instead going with single releases of their Movie and Team-Up titles. Last time they did this, the following year they released Goranger so could this mean that next year it'll be a classic series getting released that needed more work done to it?
