I’m really glad I picked this up. Just finished the theatrical cut and I’m going through the extras now. I’m digging these interviews and deleted scenes.
The TC is obviously the reason to get this. I hesitated at first because like others, I’d assume a UHD is coming, but I wasn’t willing to take the risk Kino would just put out the directors cut. If you’re a fan and can still get this for a decent price, I’d grab it. |

That’s what I thought too. Yet, it’s here sitting on my shelf while Kino, and everyone else, is sitting there with their d***s in their hands….

If you are on the fence because of potential future releases, you should just buy this anyway. You can always sell it down the road. There will always be collectors somewhere that will want these oddball releases, even if a 4k comes out. You might only get half your money back, but still, worth the risk if you ask me, especially with how little interest Paramount seems to have had toward this movie, especially the theatrical version. Hell, you might even get close to all of your money back if you sell this down the road because there are plenty of movie watchers out there who don't follow upcoming releases news like most of us do, and would have no idea of a 4k release when and if it is ever announced.

If we got the TC on UHD. I'd get that no matter what. Just cuz it's the TC. I can't risk that however of how Paramount (or whomever) keeps churning out the "DC" of this film.
I FINALLY own the theatrical. Finally. Jesus. It's been so long that I last time I saw it was the iffy looking version of this on Prime Video. Free but.... I still want a good picture. Goddamn, this film is such a fascinating world that is ridiculous but feels real within the world context. Those characters feeel real. They're emotional, imperfect looking, and so much more. My order from Deep Discount came in perfect. The shipping box was iffy and makes me question Deep Discount moreso for it. But... it was perfect condition somehow. That little crumpled paper in there couldn't have done much but I risked it for this flm just cuz of how much I wanted it. Great purchase. Hopefully the UHD comes out down the line as the theatrical but... I'll gladly survive w/ this one too. |

Ugh, I waited too long on this one. It's on backorder on Deep Discount. I placed an order but I'm not holding my breath. Anyone know anywhere else to look?

Imprint theatrical has a slightly zoomed in, cropped transfer (same as Amazon version) when compared to De and most other sources including other streaming versions, hdtv, directors cut blu-ray etc. Imprint does look to have grain not present on De, now this could be because of usual Paramount EE been applied causing it to appear as grainy and it does look a little sharpened (processed) to my eye or it could be simply because the De has been de-grained, not sure to be honest. Overall prefer the De, mainly because of the uncropped transfer and not looking sharpened like the Imprint.
Screenshot comparison is down at moment so here is a screenshot from both: Au: ![]() De: ![]() Last edited by x5gb; 06-15-2022 at 10:59 AM. |

I mean, the cropping is negligible at best. Looks like the DE has a weird digital artifact running along the edge of the frame as well (which makes it obvious that this is an ancient scan), so it seems that Imprint simply cropped that out on their release. Regardless, the 1.78:1 aspect ratio is wrong anyway so it's not like either of them have the proper framing to begin with. According to CAH the DE release is also only about 18 GB whereas when I put the Imprint disc into my BD-ROM it showed that their encode was over 30 GB.
And yes lol I ended up giving in and grabbed the Imprint release a few weeks back. I watched the theatrical cut and honestly, it doesn't exactly look great. It's certainly not the worst transfer I've ever seen, but I think the fact that most of the movie takes place at night and is thus rather dark to begin with keeps the transfer from looking downright terrible. There's grain, sure, but it's as much grain as can be expected from a transfer that's well over a decade old. Highlights are clipped, there's edge enhancement, it has all the typical flaws of those old Paramount blu-rays from early in the format. That being said, there's tons of great extras that Imprint created for this release and it's nice to finally have a copy of the theatrical cut, warts and all. So yeah, there's some cool stuff in this package but ugh, The Warriors really needs a new scan. ~Matt |
