It don't think it was Imprint that cropped it, they just used the same source as Amazon streaming version so assume Paramount must of done it at some point or maybe even Amazon. The Imprint maybe a much larger encode but they are notorious for not putting them extra bits where needed and a few of there encodes have dire compression errors.

There's nothing to indicate it wouldn't, especially since it's known people want ti. WB released the theatrical cut in HD on iTunes years ago, so any release will 99.9999% include both.

They may not have cropped it, but there's currently only one source for the theatrical cut in HD. Paramount hasn't restored this movie in a long time, so there's only this one ancient master from the mid 2000s that's been used on Amazon (and other streaming services), the DE disc and now by Imprint.

And yeah I just mentioned the size of the encode for comparison's sake. That doesn't mean I think the encode is good, in fact, I think the movie overall needs a proper restoration because the current master being used is showing its age. You're right about the encoding issues when it comes to Imprint, which is partly why this and The Osterman Weekend are the only two titles from them that I own.

Jesus, I can't believe anyone would ever notice that zoom... I suppose, never doubt some people's desire to put screencaps side by side and then lay a grid over them with millimeter markers to find that hair of a difference. LOL!

Certainly not only a hair difference, but as they say, everyone's entitled to an opinion.

Sorry, two hairs? LOL! Are we looking at the same screenshots on the last page? Because unless you find certain things in the picture, near the very edges and look back and forth, I don't think anyone would have any idea there was a zoom, if someone didn't point it out to them. Certainly nothing even close to ruining the experience. I mean, I know as movie fans, especially on this site, we like to nitpick over a lot of little things, but it's not like there's a huge color shift of incorrect aspect ratio. The zoomed version is missing, what, literally one fourth of one percent of the picture? Maybe? Idk... LOL

On May 29th I placed my order with Deep Discount. But my order still hasn't shipped. I'm thinking my order will never ship. Is the imprint release still available anywhere else or will I need to wait for a future release from Paramount?

I placed an order with Deep Discount on May 27th and I actually got a shipping confirmation this morning. It looks like they are fulfilling at least some backorders so far.

The point is, if you weren't looking at a comparison, you or anyone else would never know it's slightly zoomed. OR, for all you know, the DC shows too much on the sides and the theatrical is the proper framing.

Again, who says anything is "missing"? Virtually every film has image on the sides we were never meant to see, that falls under the masking of the theatrical screen or inside the framing plate of the projector. Many films show TOO MUCH that was never seen theatrically due to these things.

Well, technically, I don't know if something is missing. I have no idea how the movie was originally framed. I was just pointing out, the difference between the two pictures was, like, less than 1% of viewable area.

Certain parts of the AU Theatrical have a different grade compared to the DE Theatrical (which looks the same as the US DC). Others look identical.

Here are two parts that look different:

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/25123

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/25124

I haven't checked the AU DC yet to see if it matches the AU Theatrical or the US DC. edit: The AU DC has the same grade as the US DC.

edit: And a still from the gallery:

against the above screengrabs from the AU:

and DE:

I would say the colors of the AU Theatrical are closer to the still, though that doesn't mean much.
I've seen the Theatrical projected from a DCP, and I seem to remember it also looking closer to the AU Theatrical, though that also doesn't mean so much since it wasn't a print.

Depends who does the nitpicking on this site. If a newcomer and he goes against the old guard, they get snide remarks.

I watched both 1979 cut & DC and the whole set is great. The extras with those interviews are great for any fan of this movie. Worth the steep price!

I said I wouldn't do it... then I did it. I couldn't resist.

But it was worth it. Haven't watched it yet, but I have been fondling it constantly since it arrived yesterday. Such a beautiful set. Imprint really does a quality product. Can't wait to go broke on their Walter Hill box set (which I also swore I wasn't going to bite for, but who am I kidding?).

Hopefully it sells out. I want to have the movie, but somewhere I don't want it. So confusing.

I kind of felt the same way. If I knew for certain, it was coming soon on 4k to the states, I'd have passed, but I had to grab this. I just couldn't stand taking the gamble and missing out.

Exactly. It's Paramount, so I have no confidence that they will be releasing the original cut stateside anytime soon (or that Imprint's eventual "standard" release will include the unmolested version). If they do, great, but I'm not a betting man. And, what the heck, I'm sure I can recoup the cost on eBay eventually. These collector sets always go for idiotic prices even when "better" versions appear. Their "specialness" is a bit of insurance against taking too large a loss.

Yeah that's the exact same approach I took. Wasn't sure this was going to get announced as a UHD (or even if it would include the theatrical cut) and I didn't wanna risk missing out.

It's true that this is a great set, but the movie really does need a new scan.

They were already sold out again when I checked Orbit DVD last night so I checked eBay today and got one from blowitoutahere. They were selling it for the same price of $52, but they had one of their "Buy 2 Get 15% Off" sales so ended up paying only $44.50 for it. Haven't seen it since opening day 43 years ago so I couldn't pass it up.
