I really hope the 3D delivers. I recall the first having moderate 3D.

The first film's 3D has plenty of medium 3D shots, but at times, some high medium, and some strong 3D shots here and there. With such giant monsters, for natural 3D, the scale is important, as with Pacific Rim 1. But with PR1, that proves you can offer ways to show stronger 3D even with giant skyscraper sized monsters. The surrounding objects can help achieve that based on the framing of the shots for the 3D; objects in the foreground, with the giant monsters in the backgrounds.

I have no complaints with the first's 3D personally. It captured the scale of everything well.

There's a great shot in G'14 of a MUTO coming down from above the clouds into the SF Bay that looks amazing in 3D. There are a handful of other shots like that that really take advantage of the format, but for the most part I'd agree that "moderate" is a fair assessment.

I have to watch Godzilla 2014 3D again before King of Monsters 3D hits theaters. I really liked the movie for what it offered. And I expected that Godzilla wouldn't be the main star, but the humans would be, much like almost all of the Godzilla films since the original. Since the concept I believe is based on how humans react to natural and manmade/nuclear disasters striking their city.

In a movie like this, that's really what you want. I want to feel/see how big these creatures are.

I thought the 3D in the first was weak and non-existent.

If comparing the 3D in Godzilla 2014 to the 3D in a milder 3D film like Green Lantern 3D (both conversions), which also has a giant monster at the end, one pales in comparison to the other; to get a better perspective on which one is weak/mild compared to the other's mostly medium layered 3D.

Comparing the 3D to the Marvel movies. That is what I consider good 3D in live action.

It was very dark during most of the monster brawls which hurt the depth.

Hey Godzilla fans. Mothra is finally being released on Blu-ray and includes the original Japanese cut. Not 3D but can always take advantage of simulation.

That's fair enough. Marvel's recent 3D films are great examples of medium to strong 3D layering and some of the best conversions in 3D cinema.

That's cool. Mothra will appear in this new 3D film as well, which should be entertaining to see. I wonder if those twin sisters will also appear, as they're often connected to Mothra.

As long as 3D fans still show up in 3D theaters, I imagine Kong vs Godzilla will also be offered in 3D.
But if all 3D fans only waited for a blu ray 3D release instead of supporting 3D films in theaters, then it would be a much different story. Because then the studios would not make a dime from 3D conversions in theaters and they'd drop support entirely. But that's why it's important for 3D fans to support the movies they like in 3D theaters.

It also depends on theaters to offer more than 2 show times per movie per day. And then with theaters quick to drop 3D support a mere week after a smaller 3D film's release in theaters. At least Avengers End Game had 3D shows for 3 weeks before it was 2D only from what I saw.

It's probably too much to hope that a 4K/3D steel gets posted on Best Buy, a la Kong Skull Island.

But I'm hoping for that.

King Kong versus Godzilla? Am sure the 3D remake will be different from the goofy 1963 camp classic.

Would seem unlikely since Warner hasn't released a Combo pack since Skull Island.

As far as I can tell this is the entire US 4K/3D output since Skull Island -- not counting a couple Nature Imax
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 8/2017 (Disney)
Pacific Rim 2 6/2018 (Universal)
Alita (assuming) 7/2019 (Fox)

Who knows -- maybe they'll surprise us
